Hidden: 'Sunday Night Football' Goes Pink.: A female singer to introduce football?

No, no, no, no. Just as there is no crying in baseball, there is no 'Pink' anything in football!

I don't get your angle. Because she's a woman?

Was Janet Jackson unavailable?

What if she wears glittery short shorts and waves pom-poms while she's recording the theme song? Would that be OK?

And start sexist debate.....now!

It's anchorMAN, not anchorLADY and that's a scientific fact!

I've met Pink. She could take you down in short order, commander, and then wipe up the mess with Hank Williams Jr's lifeless body. Not to mention that that moronic "Rowdy Friends" song is older than dirt and half as interesting, and that Pink is way more of a kick ass singer than apparently you can handle. Sorry, buddy. I don't understand what your gripe is about.

Pink has created "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," set to Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself for Loving You," with new lyrics Awe man, they are going to ruin a perfectly good Joan Jett song.

commander c, not sure where this is coming from. It was a decade ago, as best I can recall, that I walked out of my apartment and heard the voice of a female announcer coming over the walls of Fenway. The Yankee radio network has a female commentator. Women have been reportiing on major sports, not just in a behind-the-scenes way but front and center, for quite a while now, so does a female singer surprise you? Oh, and sorry to carp, but you're still editorializing in your FPP. The article you linked to had nothing to say about the singer's gender; your question mark was the only question mark there was.

Why have any song at all? Just show the dang game.

Why have any song at all? Just show the dang game. There's a platform I can get behind.

This post violates more than a few of Spofi's guidelines. It's not really about sports, it editorializes in the FPP, it's sexist by the very nature of the question, and the link itself goes to a press release with next to no news in it. Motion to delete.

I'm a man who discovered the wheel and built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn. That's what kind of man I am. You're just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a third the size of us. It's science. My favorite part about these issues? Remindng myself that it's 2006.

Wow! I posted this and then stepped outside for a moment and everybody is on it. Hmmmm...actually the fact that the article refers to her as "she" means I don't believe I was editorializing in the FPP. It's not, imho, sexist to suggest that this is a major departure considering that Monday Night Football's intro was done by a man and was about as sexist as an intro could get (scantily clad cheerleaders?). lastly, since when is an article about Sunday Night FOOTBALL not sports related?

posted by commander cody at 12:29 PM on August 31, 2006

Oh and added to it all....she stinks as a singer. Just awful!

posted by commander cody at 12:42 PM on August 31, 2006

The blatant sexism of this post aside... Dude, Pink rocks! But seriously, I think it's a good move for NBC; trying to distance itself from ABC's Monday Football, which had at one time been somewhat of an icon and in the past several years become an I can't watch. Besides, I would much rather see and hear Pink than a washed up HW,J.

Since all of the major sports including the Olympics have some sort of signature music to identify them this is NO BIG DEAL. I think "Get The Party Started" would be a nutural for this purpose. It is good to shake things up once in a while.

Sorry, but I can't agree. Patsy Cline was a singer. Janus Joplin was a singer. Even Joan Jett is a singer. But as for quality (not style) I put Pink right down there with Britney Spears. Granted the old song is a little long in the tooth, but Pink? I just can't get behind it.

Can't debate right now. I have to go to my "No Ma'am" meeting with Al Bundy and Jefferson.

they are going to ruin a perfectly good Joan Jett song Cognitive dissonance alert.

You can't get behind it because they aren't tailoring it for your demographic.

Lastly, since when is an article about Sunday Night FOOTBALL not sports related? What about this story has anything whatsoever to do with the sport of football?

Pink is hot, she rocks, and, as mentioned above: She could take you down in short order, commander, and then wipe up the mess with Hank Williams Jr's lifeless body. Not to mention that that moronic "Rowdy Friends" song is older than dirt and half as interesting, and that Pink is way more of a kick ass singer than apparently you can handle. Probably one of the best moves Sunday Night Football could have made.

Lastly, since when is an article about Sunday Night FOOTBALL not sports related? Do you see anyone talking about sports? Not to mention it's just a couple of paragraphs put out by the associated press. Does't quite make the grade commander.
