Delmon Young Homers in Big League Debut:: Ozzie Guillen, charismatic protector of umpires everywhere, takes rookie to task for bat throwing incident.

short story as I understand it is: Brash young minor leaguer throws bat at ump, gets suspended 50 games, whines about not getting called up to bigs, gets called up to bigs, gets plunked in first mlb at bat against white sox, homers later in game.

I'm waiting for the duel meltdown between Ozzie and John Gibbons.

That kid's going to hit. Now, we'll he be a brooding malcontent a-la Frank Thomas or a full-on Albert Belle? Only time will tell...

Good for Ozzie Guillen! Delmon Young deserved what he got and Ozzie knew exactly what he was doing. Do people honestly think that Ozzie Guillen didn't have a hidden agenda behind all that? I'm sure that all the umps in the league gave Ozzie a tip of the cap and sooner or later, a call is going to go the way of the White Sox. It all equals out in the long run and I'm sure that's exactly what one the best skipper in the league was looking for.

Ozzie Guillen is an ass. This has nothing to do with him, Young already got a very long suspension. It's over. The ump that got the bat thrown at him was a scab, so I doubt the Union umps are going to think favorably of Guillen because of his actions.

I love that the retaliation for hitting Young was plunking Pierzynski. Two lightening rods for trouble, those two.

I'd put A.J. on my team any day, he knows he's a target, and he can dish it out, too. "catcher A.J. Pierzynski, a former Twin who flipped his bat on Friday after a home run, got drilled Sunday on the hip by Carlos Silva and answered the retaliation with a two run home run - and another bat flip, of course." - Jeff Passan, Yahoo Sports 8/26/06 Young was regarded as a top prospect, if he can learn to harness his temper in that same way, he may be a good 'un yet.

I'll tell you what, Young throws a mean bat, but his first few games shows he swings a pretty mean one, too. He may turn into next year's Ryan Howard.
