Hidden: Woods keeps rolling with successful title defense at Firestone : Not Tigers best round but still it was enough to win...again. This makes 4 in a row, 52nd in his career, and on the 10th anniversary of him turning pro. Is it possible he could win 100 tournaments before he calls it quits?

There's a Tiger story just 3 FPPs down from this...

Yes, we need more stories about Lions and Bears, OH MY! If I only had a brain....

There, I fixed that!

Tiger wasn't even playing well. Are there no challengers? Mickelson, +9???

This Tiger fella, I don't want to sound like a fanatic or somethin', but I think he sounds like a pretty decent golfer.

Phil hasn't been the same since he blew up on the 18th hole at the US Open.

Tiger plays mediocre (for him) and still wins. Where are his contemporary rivals? Oh yeah, he really doesn't have any.

It seems like every week there is someone out there who keeps up for the first three rounds, and then all of a sudden they forget how to win. I think that shows the mental impact Tiger has on everyone's game. I saw Cink smiling and laughing before the first playoff hole. That is not the demeanor you should have going up against the worlds best.

This goes back to the dominance discussion we had on SpoFi several days ago. Tiger goes into a tournament, it turns out his game is "off", and he's still a serious threat to beat the rest of the "best". If he goes into a tournament and turns out to be in the zone, he crushes the competition. If this isn't dominance, then someone please tell me what is.

At what point do you think S. Cink was saying "What the F@#*". When Tiger's playing like that, they should just change the name of the programming for Sunday to "The Tiger Woods Show!" When he's leading or close, he does'nt choke.

I like my golf threads as much as anyone, and I'm more than occasionally guilty of rambling off-topic and turning the whole thing into some discussion of the game in general (which these days means talking Tiger) rather than about the post in particular, but I have to say jerseygirl has a point. There's no story or wonderful piece of sportswriting here - there's just the posting of a result and the hope for a bit of SpoFi chat about it. The fact that there are already too many non-stories-posted-for-the-sake-of-inspiring-a-discussion on the front page is not a reason to post (or defend) another one just because it's something you want to talk about. Surely someone out there in the press wrote something insightful and worth reading about Tiger's win that we could have posted, rather than the post victory soundbites. I didn't even read them, but I'm going to guess the great white tooth came out with something banal along the lines of "it was tough out there, but it's a lot of fun to win again" for a change.

I have to agree with JJ. this is becoming the tiger-fi blog.

tiger woods is a robot.

Enough with the lame-ass robot thing. Not half as cool as Andre the Giant having a posse, as far as mantras go.

jakeamo15 is a Tiger-is-a-robot-bot. Hey, buddy: 001010001010100010101000 Yeah, I told him to fuck off. In binary. (swish!)

Tiger showed us what he could do with his "B" game. Scary. I don't think we should dis the rest of the field for folding when Tiger's on the prowl. Some do, and did Sunday, but Cink came back from 3 strokes down on the last three holes to force a playoff and then hung with Tiger until he birdied the fourth playoff hole. I don't think that qualifies as choking or being intimidated. Cink's demeanor was fine, he just wasn't quite good enough to beat Tiger Sunday.

Is Tiger's wife a robot? Where can I get one?

posted by Bill Lumbergh at 02:32 PM on August 28, 2006

Yeah, Cink played very well, and has no reason to hang his head. Tiger shot 33 coming in despite his bogey at 16, and did try to take command of the tournament with birdies at 10, 12, and 13. After his long bomb at 12 went in to go two up on Furyk, Cink, and Casey, David Feherty remarked "He forces the field to do more than they are capable of." Firestone is no pushover, and the field was pretty tough. Lehman's pick of Cink for the Ryder Cup team may be a pretty good hunch.

worshiping a robot is not cool.
