Sandis Ozolinsh charged with DWI: The seven time all-star, who was acquired by the Rangers from Anaheim in March, was reportedly pulled over for speeding at 11am. The officer noted "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" and a sobriety field test revealed that Ozolinsh had a blood-alcohol level of .17 percent. That more than twice the legal limit of .08 percent.

I notice a strong odor when ever I see Ozolinsh play D in his own zone.

Zing! This guy has always flirted with being truly great, but can't seem to figure out even basic coverage tactics in his own zone. Too bad about the drinking problem, though. He was awful in the Rangers series.

An Eastern European who drinks? Perhaps Oksana Baiul can drive him home for a while.

Has new york become the place where good hockey players go to die??? Fleury became more of an alcoholic, Kevin Stevens gets caught in a hotel room with crack and a hooker, and Sandy's dui. I wish the rangers would stop investing time and money into players with major personal issues. I probably wouldnt give this issue a second thought if ozolinsh had actually done something in the playoffs, but he was probably drunk. Unfortunatly I don't see him turning around his career at this stage in his life either. Good thing the summer is here for my boys in blue!

This is sad. I know several folks around Raleigh who got to know him during his time here and they all say that he's a wonderful guy. He's his own worst enemy.

If I played as bad as he did in the Devils series I'd have a drink too.

funny part is that glen sather asked darius if he straighten himself out an he said yes so glen got him...darius must feel bad, looking like a fool, seeing that sandis had previous problems with booze...didn't do a good job of rehab....reminds me of brian fogarty...another great talent wiped out by the bottle..

Why is a DUI, after the season ends, even newsworthy? This is silly tabloid journalism at best, unless Newday is going to print stories on every single DUI arrest made in their coverage region.

Bill, I think it is relevant because of his stay in rehab earlier this season. Also, it speaks to the Rangers cap situation for next season. If he retires, which was reported on only two days before his arrest and which he denied, his bloated salary goes bye-bye.

I still think famous people are entitled to a modicum of privacy; if this is the deciding factor in his retirement, the retirement will be announced soon enough and I don't see how knowing about this makes any difference except for the prurience value.
