World Cup Blog After a few years off, the site has returned Germany 2006, with a fan-written blog for each of the 32 teams in the tournament (plus one about the refs). A post about the 20 highest paid players (salary, endorsements, etc.) caught my eye since Barca have three of the top five, two of the five are teenagers, two of the 20 I've never heard of make more than Andriy Shevchenko and none are American (okay, this is not surprising).

I love it, thanks Holmes!

Although, it appears all the links are not working...

Podolski and Babel right? I agree: whooooooooo?!

I'd take those figures with a pinch of salt...! Try any search of the world's best paid athletes to prove this wrong.

To prove what wrong? That these are in fact the world's highest paid soccer players? What are you on about?

Because it was on the Internet, it's true, eh Hugh? C'mon, Mr. Gullible, read this and wise up... money.uk.msn.com

I'm guessing, Huge, that even you would have to admit that Forbes.com is a tad more accurate than worldcupbl(a)g?

Niall, I can't argue for the accuracy of either but the Forbes list figures seem well on the low side to me and at only $7M(!) I have to wonder how either Landon Donovan or Freddie Adu, the two best paid American players AFAIK, didn't get on it.

Great find, bill. Just sucked up all of my free time from now until July.

First of all, fuck you for your tone, niall. I asked you what you were on about because in your (vague) criticism of this post you suggested a search of the world's best paid athletes, which implies that you didn't comprehend the post, which is about the world's best paid footballers. I even bothered to look at Forbes for a list of the best paid athletes, as you suggested, and didn't really find much enlightening. Not a lot of soccer players there. So you can take your snide little rant and knee-jerk it right up your pompous ass.

OK on a lighter note, a cute lil' ad played on Fox Sports Espanol for the upcomming WC.
