Super Bowl Wants Only Young Dancers: Had to post because I thought it was odd that there is an age limit of 45 and under for halftime "dancers" when the act jumping around on stage is representative of the over 60 set. I was also kind of hoping the article had something to do with the proliferation of Go Go Dancer requests in the Detroit area.

Maybe this should be in culture instead of football? Since you brought up the go-go dancers, here's a related note about how Super Bowl business is booming in that well-known den of sin ... Windsor, Ontario

Why does the NFL have to put a spin on this? Why can't they just come out and state the reason for the age limt? The age requirements match their target audience. I am 47 and can probably stand on my feet longer than most twenty somethings. This is a joke.

They shoot horses, don't they?

There are no all-nude strip clubs in Detroit? What the hell kind of city are you people running, anyway?

This is an outrage! Bullshit! I, for one, want to see my mom up there dancing in a leotard! No, wait. No. I don't. I don't get why this is a big deal.

posted by jerseygirl at 12:20 PM on January 04

It's not a big deal. It's showbiz (close enough) and you get to say who you want out there. Plus, there is an audition process - I bet if a 47 year old went through it and made it, they wouldn't be thrown out for their age.

What's the big deal anyway? They had a 150-year-old dancer at last year's halftime show.

You keep this up, we're turning the car around and you're seeing Janet Jackson's scary boob again.

posted by jerseygirl at 02:15 PM on January 04

So is a Windsor Knot a euphemism for something dirty in Ontario? (how about four-in-hand?)

posted by chris2sy at 02:26 PM on January 04

Please God anything but Janets boobies. Im still having nightmares. Oh thats because of Justin Timberlakes performance. Sorry.

posted by indycoltsfan1 at 02:53 PM on January 04

I just hope the media does not make a big deal about this and forget to make sure that Mick Jaggers boob doesn't pop out.

posted by steelcityguy at 02:55 PM on January 04

No need to worry about a Jagger wardrobe malfunction as his boobs/genetalia will be amply covered by his sagging lower lips and jowls.

Am I missing something? These people aren't gonna be on the stage, wearing thongs and filling in for the Solid Gold Dancers; they're gonna be milling around the field looking like a *haungh*ptui* Coors ad. Go-go dancer? Your life is calling. Am I the only one who got this? RIP.

Is Honky back from the 70's dang, see this country girl misses everything. I say they have the basketball grannies perform

posted by countrygirllostinLA at 05:42 PM on January 04

What is the NFL thinking? Safety? Come on! What about the safety of the many older, fat refs? I think it is more likely that they want a young, lively crowd to be seen on television. And, yes, what about the performers themselves? Is the NFL going to make sure that Keith Richard is fit enough to hit his famous riffs? For once I would like to hear the NFL or a large company tell the truth. "Hey, we just want to make sure that there are no sagging boobs and bald heads out there."

i was at aparty last year and no one enjoyed the show unless they were over 40

It's a proven fact that once you have received a knighthood, your music deteriorates. Or it could be the other way round... Examples: Sir Paul McCartney (last year's Superbowl), Sir 'Mick' Jagger (this year), and 'Sir' Elton John (any bets for 2007?)

posted by owlhouse at 06:03 PM on January 04

Elton's a newlywed, so I'll give him a break. Actually, no, I won't. He's sucked ever since "Crocodile Rock."

posted by The_Black_Hand at 06:14 PM on January 04

JG, you are aware that's the mating call of the wild RZA, right? Waiting for his entrance in 3...2...1... And I'm sorry, but for a Detroit Super Bowl, couldn't the NFL have booked the appropriate band? On preview -- from my understanding of it, Elton John's been sucking for quite some time.

posted by wfrazerjr at 06:36 PM on January 04

Actually, i've had this thread up for about a 1/2 hour trying to find the secret racism towards the blackman in it. But with the honky honky honky, and the smack talk on Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Elton John im confused as hell. I dont know what to do. You all did this on purpose. I'm melting.... melting....... melting

posted by RZA at 06:56 PM on January 04

It's obvious to me that the NFl fears lawsuits due to all those hand-walkers getting tangled up. It could cause a chain-reaction of mass carnage and mangled post-45 limbs. And that would be very, very ugly.

posted by rockamora at 08:30 PM on January 04

RZA made me laugh. And as far as Detroit acts, really, anyone but KISS, please. It doesn't have to be the Stooges, White Stripes and MC5 (although wouldn't that be great). Aretha Franklin (or Gladys Knight) for the national anthem, Stevie Wonder, Kid Rock, Bob Seger, Diana Ross, hell, even Madonna would be okay for a 45-second 3-song medley. Anyone but those four soulless whores. Happy New Year, everybody!

Im about to lay a confession on everyone since i'm feeling all fuzzy and shiot. But i cant yet....i gotta wait until my assignment is complete. Chicobangs, at the risk of being stoned by your fellow RZA haters, thanks for being honest. jerseygirl, the quadruple honky was way over whelming, i felt like superman when he had that chain of kryptonite around his neck, i was powerless...i got the sudden urge to talk about the weather or politics, sports even. i definitely found myself in new territory.

Jack White= the new Prince/Hendrix, and i dont say that lightly. Im a huge Prince fan, and Jack White displays that kind of genius.

I must apologize for putting you in that awkward and uncomfortable position. The reverse quadruple honky sometimes causes those side effects. I think it best you just put your head between your knees or breathe into a paper bag when you experience such symptoms again. You never know when I just may use it again. Let us adjourn now to Metafilter so we might beat each other over the head about Ariel Sharon or Pigeon Cruelty or whatever the hell they are yelling about on the blue today.

You know, The White Stripes are to music as Tom Green is to comedy. And this is just getting too lovefesty for me ... I'm going to go find some information on Tim Krumrie's leg getting snapped in Super Bowl XXIII and a firsthand account of Bryant Young's awful double bonebreak.

wfrazerjr, you may find this odd but, i swear to you that my comment to my brother the day before yesterday was.... "if alot of these new rock groups are the "jackass's of mtv, then the whitestripes are the tom green show". they say great minds think alike, no matter the cultural background. Damn, 3 posts in a row and no racialphobia comments. i'm going to lose my rep.
