Noelle Pikus-Pace, ranked number 1 in the world in the skeleton event, had her leg crushed in an accident at the Calgary Olympic Park. The first American woman to ever win the overall world cup skeleton title suffered a compound fracture of her lower left leg when an American four-man bobsled manned by a rookie driver and rookie brakeman overran their stop area and plowed into Pikus-Pace and two other sliders at about 60 mph.

Can I get a big "Ouch" over there? Damn noobs screwing things up everywhere. Maybe they make rookie bobsledders have big stupid looking stickers on their bobsleds so people know to stay well away. And now I've got lots of random John Candy quotes from "Cool Runnings" in my head. "No, bones don't break when you crash in a bobsled, they shatter."

"Compound fracture" covers an awful lotta ground, but boy, it sure don't sound good for her Olympic year. What a goddamn shame.

That is one hell of a moving violation. Which begs the question, do you need a license to drive a bobsled?

She's lucky she's not dead. I wonder how those rookies' careers will progress from such an auspicious start.
