Milk it does a body...: good? Ok everyone...have fun with this one. I don't even know what to say.

This is an impossible feat. It is a runing bet at the station where i work, except you only have 30 minutes to drink it and 30 minutes to hold it down. Several have tried, all have puked, but none have been suspended. That is ridiculous

oops running

i thought you meant ruining.

oh...i hope penny still gave him the $500.

I dont know how to respond about this......It seems like such a childish thing to do!

posted by daddisamm at 10:55 PM on August 24, 2005

It is pretty funny though, watching the look on the persons face as all that milk starts to curdle inside their stomach.

Daddisamm have ya ever seen the movie ladder 49?

......It seems like such a childish thing to do! which...much to my wife's dismay...is probably why i think it is funny. To get serious for a second...why did the Marlin's suspend him?

posted by stofer71 at 11:07 PM on August 24, 2005

Thats is a good question, were they pissed because it was a dare from a dodgers player?

posted by jojomfd1 at 11:26 PM on August 24, 2005

Did Penny and the Marlins part ways in a bad fashion?

posted by jojomfd1 at 11:27 PM on August 24, 2005

AS dave chappelle once said "It better be cambodian breast milk I only drink the finest breast milks" On the real the marlins are ridiculous

posted by david at 12:49 AM on August 25, 2005

this just justifies why I hate baseball, this kid get's six games, brad penny gets nothing, raffy juices for fifteen years, lies to congress and gets ten games, yep sounds like justice to me

posted by bharr_77 at 01:06 AM on August 25, 2005

You know Penny still gave the kid the 500 bucks... they're just keeping it on the downlow so he doesn't get in any more trouble... It's the least he can do... The entire Marlins organization, especially Jeffery Loria, are a buncha crapbags... Remember what he did to the Expos!?

Kudos to major league baseball for dealing proactively with their growing milk problem.

I love the smell of false dilemma in the morning. Well, the link came from ESPN, need I say more? They are the kings of the false dilemma..

here's another clubhouse trick that is pretty much impossible. try eating one slice of bread in under one minute. sounds easy, but i have never seen anyone do it. also, i saw jeremy giambi give the clubhouse kid in vegas last year 300 dollars to drink the grease catcher from the george foreman grill. the kid did it but yacked all over the place 10 minutes later.

posted by erkno11 at 09:11 AM on August 25, 2005

The bread one usually devolved into bargaining when I was a kid, e.g., "Can I roll the slice into smaller balls before the clock starts?" Well, the link came from ESPN, need I say more? They are the kings of the false dilemma.. No: the false dilemma was the suggestion baseball's administration was weighing this suspension versus Palmeiro's. The two have nothing to do with each other yet bharr_77 conflated them.

Nice to see Jeremy Giambi is still having an impact in the game.

Don't the Marlins have anything better to worry about? The kid is a teenager. We are all wild. Penny should get suspended by MLB, not the batboy by the Marlins.

This is along the same lines as trying to eat 5 saltines in a minute without anything to drink. Impossible, but someone will always take the bait. They look like a confetti cannon after about three crackers. Childish, but loads of fun.

posted by mookville at 11:16 AM on August 25, 2005

I just don't understand why anyone would get in trouble for this. What is the problem? Batboys are not allowed to fraternize with opposing players? Batboys are not allowed to drink milk on the job? Batboys are not allowed to have fun in the commission of their duties?

posted by bperk at 11:40 AM on August 25, 2005

Or are the batboys just not allowed to make any side money while they are at it?

posted by jojomfd1 at 11:52 AM on August 25, 2005

He probably drank Borden's when Lactaid is "The Official Milk of the Florida Marlins."

try eating one slice of bread in under one minute. We had someone try a whole loaf of bread in an hour at the library one night after meal hall.....Best. Study Session. Ever.

posted by smithers at 11:59 AM on August 25, 2005

Grover Cleveland Alexander did it during two non-consecutive rain delays.

Does the record not count if it's enriched bread?

posted by ajaffe at 01:09 PM on August 25, 2005

Boys will be boys, there is no reason to suspend the guy for 6 games though.

I've never heard of this milk dare before (good thing somebody didn't ask me to do it then). Does it matter* what kind of milk you use? Say, whole vs 2% vs 1% vs skim vs good old homo? (*asking as though there has some been some testing on this issue)

posted by gspm at 01:56 PM on August 25, 2005

It's not just half-bright athletes and batboys taking the "Got Milk?" challenge.

posted by The_Black_Hand at 02:52 PM on August 25, 2005

speaking of milk - I especially enjoyed the NYTimes article title, linked to at the designer's website.

posted by garfield at 03:13 PM on August 25, 2005

We always make them use good old regular vitamin d whole milk, gspm. I would not try it though if I were you, it is impossible.

posted by jojomfd1 at 06:01 PM on August 25, 2005

Update: Batboy, meet Milk Industry. "The [Milk Processor Education Program] is offering the batboy $500, the original prize of the dare, along with any lost wages from the suspension as long as he promises to drink the recommended three glasses of milk a day."

It'd be cooler if that $500+ wasn't coming out of my pocket via our subsidized dairy farmers.
