Remember Nadia?: Jack Marx of the Sydney Morning Herald certainly does, and she was (for a while) his Olympic inspiration. For anyone who's dreamt. Personally I preferred Nelli Kim....

There's been a lot of great Romanian gymnasts since, but no-one wants to talk about them. I'll take Catalina Ponor.

She was perfect. And so compelling, such a strong persona. Great idea for a piece of writing, kinda skimmed the surface, though. . .for a young person (i was. . seven) she made it seem like WE could be perfect, too - at something. . .some sport, somehow; and she was - what's the word for when children find other children attractive, oh, I know, a fox. Very complex influence on a certain generation.

For a magazine article, that was a most excellent and touching blog entry. Very sweet reminiscence, though. Thanks, owlhouse.

Isn't she married to Bart Conner?

If so, do they have uneven bars and a pommel horse in the boudoir?

Don't forget the rings hanging from the ceiling.

I just had to join so I could comment in this thread. I've been enjoying this site for awhile. I saw Nadia in person a few years ago, and she is absolutely beautiful. She turned my het-girl head. For some reason, she never looks as pretty on TV as she does in real life. Owlhouse, Nellie Kim was also a fox, but I'm not sure that she still is. Uh, I guess this is terribly shallow for a first comment.

Given the trend, today's terribly shallow may be tomorrow's profoundly meaningful. Stick around and let the law of averages catch up.

Welcome pooch. I'm glad Nadia's in such good shape, having survived years of Eastern bloc training and God knows what else, then all the crap that happened with her move to the US.

Nellie Kim Not much at her own website, but apparently she has moved to Minnesota. Pictures seem to indicate she has aged well.

I found that kind of, um, creepy, actually.
