According to the book of Carlin, a sport is competitive and brings the risk of injury, which separates it from a game. By that definition, I'd definitely have to call this a sport. And it's good to seethe bull get one every once in a while. The practice is barbaric, but the odds could always be more even.

It seems like every year we get to see a photo or video similar to this one. Everyone that participates in this event must feel like they are immune to the horn up the ass tragedy. I simply can't imagine taking part in this sport knowing that I could end up like this "reveller" after the dust settles.

There are plenty of other Sports that have a much higher rate of fatalities and/or injuries to its participants. This is more of a tradition than anything (see history of Spain and the symbolism of the bull to them).

Everyone that participates in this event must feel like they are immune to the "horn-up-the-ass tragedy". This one time at band camp ... Seriously, though, there is nothing you can do to keep stupid people from being stupid, and overly macho guys from being overly macho. As my example, I give you the Hummer, a behemoth which looks like a short bus, drives like a Sherman tank and eats gas like Kristie Alley at a premiere buffet. Yet they sell millions of them. And who is the target audience? See above.

Although from the looks of the picture, the guy getting it seems like a tourist (who knows if even American that was too drunk or high to know what he was getting into), since the locals dress completely in white for that event.
