The Michael Jordan of Climbing: Who else but Reinhold Messner? Everest. Without oxygen. Solo. And the mystery of the yeti is finally solved.

Nice piece. Though it's not to be confused with The Unauthorized Biography Of Reinhold Messner, which has absolutely nothing to do with the man. (Ben Folds claims to have never heard of the guy, and thought he'd pulled the name out of his ass. (That's a solid record, by the way. Not their best, but mature and very well realized.))

Not to get the thread sidetracked, but the name came from Darren Jesse's fake ID. The album title is actually part of a story from Darren's schooldays when a friend suggested using Reinhold Messner on fake id's. Allegedly there were many 27 year old Reinholds who looked suspiciously adolescent, inhabiting the bars of Charlotte, North Carolina in the late eighties.

Climbers like this are rad. As an ameuter climber, one of my joys in life is not only pushing myself to the limits of my climbing ability, but also seeing awesome feats by others. I find them truely awe-inspiring, especially when I can see it in person.
