Boxers who are losers; promoters who love them:
Tomato cans, palookas, bums, stiffs: boxing has myriad words to describe these boxers' singular purpose: to provide more promising fighters a chance to pad their records and enhance their careers. (NY Times reg. required)

Thanks ever so much for this link split atom. What a depressing situation this is. My first thought is that I'm glad a guy like John McCain is keeping one eye on the industry. Second is that, everything the losing boxers are saying in their defense is true, they are simply volunteering to make a living by being punished by better fighters. And third is that any third-party who suffers because they gambled on boxing under false pretenses and lost their shirt deserves what they got (or didn't get, as the case may be). Lastly, I really wish the boxers could form a union.
