Yesterday marked the first annual Jackie Robinson Day : celebrated in stadiums all across the league. At a time when steroid use is putting records in doubt, we should be reminded that records before 1947 are tainted as well.

On the one hand, it seems kind of strange for teams to honor (and retire the number of) a player who never appeared in a single for them. At the same time, that day 57 years ago really did mark the beginning of a new era in baseball, and it's only fitting that we recognize that.
