Garcia to Cleveland, and Couch to the couch?: It appears the Browns are ready to ditch former No. 1 pick Tim Couch and sign 49er castoff Jeff Garcia to a two-year deal. I think the real story here is how much both these players were asked to cut from their contracts. Are we seeing a subtle salary restructuring through the NFL, or are the top-tier contracts absorbing these corrections?

I think we're seeing two currently middle-of-the-pack QBs getting paid like they're middle-of-the-pack. Garcia is definitely better then Couch right now, though. Besides, Garcia is apparently going to Tampa.

I always liked Garcia as a QB. I don't think he's top notch, but he's got to be better than Couch.

Couch'll catch on somewhere, but he needs a change. Cleveland's just gone cold for him. Would Garcia look good in Browns orange? (Y'know, as much as anyone would look good in those colors.) Sure. Cleveland does need a proven entity at QB, even if just for morale's sake. Holcombe is not going to be the answer week in and week out. The question really is, would you be more comfortable with Brad Johnson or Tim Couch? Whoever's less comfortable with their respective situations between TB and Cleveland will probably wind up with the deal. And Johnson has at least won a Super Bowl.

Would Garcia look good in Browns orange? Clashes with his red hair!

On the pay scale issue, I think bcb2k2 was right. Oddly, I think Garcia would've made more money restructuring his deal with the Niners but I guess vanity got in the way.

If I was a team in need of a QB I would definitely be looking hard at Couch right now. His strength is supposed to be his accuracy ... and as a Cowboys fan who has had to watch Quincy Carter accuracy would certainly be a welcome change.

Well, now the story is back to Garcia going to the Browns. link.

Congratulations, Browns fans - you just got an excellent quarterback. 49ers fans will start a mutiny in about 3...2...1...
