KC Chiefs unbeaten no more: defeated by the team formerly known as the Bungles. Does the credit go to (my pick for) Coach of the Year, the Boast, or the SI cover jinx?

Marvin Lewis is definitely up there, but my current Coach of the Year pick has to be Bill Belicheck. I'm a 49ers fan currently living in Boston, so I've been seeing a lot of Patriots games this year... Incredible what he's done, especially considering the injury bug that's hit that team this year. But back on topic... I'm gonna go with the Boast. What with Jamal Lewis' prediction of his rushing record, it seems that all guarantees are flying this season.

On that note, I, as a completely non-influential sports fan, GUARANTEE the Niners are winning it all.

bwahhahahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah. Niners. Good one.

How about some link love for SI's own analysis of their cover jinx?

(I mean cause conceivably that link to the undefeated Chiefs cover will not point to that cover once that is no longer the current issue - ie next week. But yeah, heh heh, the cover jinx may have struck again)

the jinx of the SI cover sucks. Look no further than the Pedro Martinez/Kerry Wood dual special editions back in the playoffs. I am glad the Bengals won though. SI bastards. I propose 52 weeks of Yankees and Lakers covers. Who is with me?

The Patriots are less than two years removed from a Super Bowl championship. Bill Belicheck shouldn't be considered coach of the year material for that reason. At this point, I'd choose Bill Parcells or Marvin Lewis.

I'd say that support for Mike Tice's candidacy for CotY is dropping fast. In fact, I guarantee it.

Uh - How could you not think of Parcell's first for COTY? Pats were considered a decent team. No one gave Da 'Boys a chance in hell - and they're headed seemingly for a first round bye. Did anyone really think that a Trent Green led offense would challenge the '74 Dolphins? Naw, they had to have a game like this in them - it'll be good in the long run. Let them calm down, refocus and get to the big dance. Man, has there ever been a year like this? So much parity it's alarming.

I wouldn't award the 'Boys a first round bye just yet, let alone their division. They've played a soft schedule so far and the Eagles are charging. The playoffs are likely though and that alone should win Parcells Coach of The Year honors.

Peter King from SI had this to say about the Cowboys in his MMQB column today: Tampa Bay 16, Dallas 0. New England 12, Dallas 0. Carolina, Miami, Philadelphia the next three weeks. Uh-oh. In other words, two shutouts against good defenses, with three straight coming up against defenses ranked 17, 11 and 19 respectively. At least the 'Boys defense is ranked #1. These 3 games should make the difference in Dallas' season.

Agreed on that. Good thing we don't pick these awards at the midway point. Dallas could conceivably lose everygame the rest of the way. Of their 7 victories, one team has a better than .500 record in the Philadelphia Eagles (7-3). Speaking of which, my vote goes to Andy Reid. The guy started 0-2, booed/cheered by the worst fans in the nation and you win 7 of your next 8 with a quarterback just now finding his groove?
