It's in the game: CNN ponders the EA Sports cover jinx, a curse that has claimed Michael Vick, Marshall Faulk, Daunte Culpepper, and Eddie George and extends beyond the NFL. As Andrew Tougas writes, "Every year it derails careers, impedes athletes' ascension into superstardom and trounces hopes for playoff contention -- and all one has to do is be featured on the box of an EA Sports video game." Most recent victim: Dany Heatley. Slated for doom: Vince Carter and Carmelo Anthony.

Joe Thornton was slated to be on the cover of NHL 2004 until he was arrested for getting between his brother and the police at a bar over the summer. What happened to Heatley was terrible, of course, but I'm glad it wasn't Joe on the cover. Link goes to terrible website, with all sorts of flashie dealies and crap. You've been warned.

I KNOW! I KNOW! - Why'd ya have to jinx my boy Vince?!?! He just dropped 39 all over the Nets and took only about 5 jump shots doing it. I just thought that if we don't talk about it - it might not happen. Take Melo you fiends! Take Melo! Let him be your sacrificial lamb. Incidently, when do we get to see Melo's candy bar: Cabury's Caramelo.... Smooth chocolate surrounds rich, creamy carameloooooooooooooooo..... (is it time to go home yet?)

Hasn't Vince already been jinxed though? Was Grant Hill on an EA cover at any point? or does that fall under the Duke jinx...

It hasn't nailed Tiger Woods yet, but does a "slump" count?

Is there not a Campbell's soup one too?

Speaking of the !@#@!#@!#! Duke jinx....

I hope there's a SEGA jinx, just so that Roenick can get his! Montoya was the cover-boy for the EA F1 game, was he jinxed in any way? Other than having to watch Shumacher win yet again? I don't know boxing, futbol, or rugby well enough to see if it applies... let alone identify the cover boys.
