Arsenal's European campaign flames out.: Kiev withstands late storm in their box to win. I just can't catch a break this week from any of my teams. What's in store for the other English teams in the Champion's league, especially tomorrow's newest Battle of Britain - ManU v. Rangers.

I really wish I'd seen this at the pub rather than being stuck at work. The minute by minute match report makes it sounds like quite the exciting match toward the end (despite what I think is a disappointing crushing result).

ARSEnal can't do this in Europe can they?

Can't do what? Win? Hmmm, that seems about right recently.

In other Champions League news, Wednesday at 2:30PM EST, Real Madrid vs Partizan Belgrade will be on ESPN2.

Whoa, I just noticed that Inter got runover by Lokomotiv Moscow. What is it about Eastern Europe right now?

posted by trox at 04:46 PM on October 21, 2003

You mean what is it about Inter? Sacking Cuper just before a European tie ... they were many peoples favourites too. Dynamo meanwhile are notoriously difficult to beat at home in Europe and Arsenal were a shambles in midfield until Viera and Ljungberg came on. The crunch game for them now must be having to win in the Guiseppe Meazza (or San Siro for any AC fans amongst us).

Man Utd vs Rangers. Is there any way they can both lose?

squealy, in your honor, as I watch tomorrow, I will taunt both sides equally. or equeally, even.

As for Arsenal, WTF was Lehmann doing? Bad, bad week for Euro goalies on English teams, I guess.

This might finally be a Champions League to watch... I am tired of the same old teams winning...

posted by StarFucker at 08:34 AM on October 22, 2003

Hmm how is Arsenal getting knoclked out a cure for the same old teams winning. They've never had much success in Europe.

I wasn't necessarily talking about Arsenal... I have said it before, Champions League should be just Champions...not 2nd through 4th place teams from England, Spain and Italy...

Happy as I am that ESPN is broadcasting any CL match this week, why are they giving us Real Madrid against an unknown team rather than the Battle of Britain?!?!?! Tell me that won't be a better match.

posted by billsaysthis at 11:09 AM on October 22, 2003

Probably cause they can make more money having you PAY to see the "Battle of Britain"... And Partisan Belgrade isn't an unknown team. Real will not have an easy game. Ooh, i hope Partisan wins!

72' Chelsea (Eng) [2 - 1] Lazio (Ita) 25' Juan Veron Yellow 30' Sinisa Mihajlovic Yellow 38' [0 - 1] Simone Inzaghi SCORE!! 48' John Terry Yellow 56' Simone Inzaghi Yellow 57' [1 - 1] Frank Lampard SCORE!! 65' [2 - 1] Adrian Mutu SCORE!! COME ON LAZIO!!

Sure Mutu, score in fecking CL where I don't get any EPL fantasy league points for it. Anyone watch the RM match yet? Much better (more competitive) match than I expected though Beckham seemed impressive in more of a central role than he usually plays.
