I have to believe he changed his mind because Belichek told him he's staying on for just one more year and the Patriots will make him the new head coach after that.

I think it's bigger than that. Brady's going to go too. Brady and Garoppolo have the same agent. Groppo got sent to SF for a second round pick to give him a chance to play - and to allow the Pats to evaluate him over a multiple game span. But giving him up that cheaply, the Pats consider him a rental.

SF can franchise tag Jimmy while Brady finishes indulging himself. Then Brady leaves and Jimmy returns to the Pats as a UFA to play for Josh. For major money.

Of course, if the Niners sign Jimmy to a new deal, this all goes out the window. I will say, he does look comfortable in a Niners uniform.

The Pats problem is that reality keeps exceeding expectations. Brady throws for 500 yds in the Super Bowl instead of Peytoning as expected, and Garoppolo goes undefeated instead of 1-4 as a starter and now has everyone talking about him.

The league should switch the site of the 2018 Colts-Pats game from Foxboro to Indy. Among other things, to see if Karen Pence is unable to maintain her composure and starts throwing batteries at McDaniels during the game.

Part of me is really bitter that McDaniels screwed over the Colts this late in the game, after other good candidates Indy interviewed have taken jobs elsewhere -- but part of me is also really glad I don't have to root for a Patriot with that little integrity.

Beaverboard, I have been thinking much the same thing about the possibility of the Patriots luring Garoppolo back from the 49ers. I look for Belichick and Brady to be gone not later than the end of the 2019 season. Belichick will use the time to work with Brian Flores, current Linebackers Coach and heir apparent to Matt Patricia's job as Defensive Coordinator, to bring him up to a higher level of excellence. There was some discussion about Greg Schiano being hired as a sort of consultant/assistant head coach, ultimately taking over for Belichick, but I think that the Kraft's might have scotched that idea.

Goyoucolts, I am unable to feel any sympathy for the Colts. It goes back to 1984 when my wife and I lived in Baltimore. I was a Patriots fan, but I rather liked the Colts for their history, involvement with the city, and the things like the marching band. If I had to root for another team, Baltimore was the one. When the Irsay family packed up the team in the middle of the night and moved them to Indianapolis, I lost all respect for them. I know it's not right to wish ill fortune on anyone, but somehow doing it to the Colts is payback for 1984. I do agree that there is a lack of integrity on McDaniels's part, and he has likely eliminated himself from any consideration for a head coaching position in the future. He has made his bed and now must lie in it.
