There has to be something wrong with the third base coach running down the line in between the runner and the player with the ball at third base.

If I was the guy with the ball (and realized that no one was going to cover home in time), I would have thrown the ball AT the third base coach and try to get an "interference" call from the ump for the automatic out.

If Indiana U grabs Brad Stevens from Boston and Illinois grabs Tony Bennett from Virginia, I will be severely displeased.

How in the world would Illinois grab Bennett when Wisconsin couldn't? I mean, aside from a giant pile of cash. Are there hot take artists even throwing that out as a possibility?

try to get an "interference" call

There are a few things that might go into an interference call. First is that if you do throw the ball at the coach, you have to hit him with it. This is not at all assured when the coach is a moving target. The next thing is that the coach had to really be in the way of a throw. If the coach were far enough to one side of the line that the throw would have to take, the umpire would not make the interference call. Last, even if all the necessary items were in place to make a correct call of interference, would the umpire make the call? Remember, interference is a judgement call, therefore, it cannot be the subject of a protest. Many umpires will not make such a call to bail out a team that has messed up a play as badly as that shown in the video.

On another subject, a famous figure at many significant sporting events has been euthanized. The rumor that a noted NFL quarterback was present at the event has been proven untrue.
