Forty years ago today, Ian Turnbull became the first and (still) only NHL defenceman to score 5 goals in a single game. He's also the only NHL player to score 5 goals on just 5 shots.

That season, 1976-1977 Maple Leafs, is probably the time when I first started following hockey as a kid (five years old for the season) and why every time I played ball hockey for the next ten years I would pretend to be one of the following players:

G: Mike Palmateer
D: Borje Salming
D: Ian Turnbull
RW: Lanny McDonald
C: Darryl Sittler
LW: Tiger Williams

There is only one player to pretend to be: Zarley Zalapski. I mean, what a name!

I can think of someone who is pretending to be Punch Imlach.
