Sports cars ...whats YOUR favorite. I have many...but i came across this one and became inspired to post, the Mercedes SLR McLaren AMG. With a 5.5 Liter, 600 Horsepower V8 Engine. This should be a fun thread.

Then again, it IS Friday afternoon. May not be many posts. Sportfilter: We do posts!

Uh oh... you don't want to get me started on cars... the only trouble with the new Benzes is that they're still auto tranny. They still beat the shit out of the new BMWs coming out, styling-wise. And I'm a big BMW guy. But the new BMW designs look horrible. The 5 is better than the 7 and Z4, but it's still sort of Japanese looking and not what BMWs should be. Anyway, my favorite sports car... Ferrari 575M Maranello. Just awesome. Of course, I'd rather have an Enzo, but that is too common a response. The old standby, the 911tt (or any of the GT2 or 3) will always be right near the top too. How about the 1000hp Bugatti Veyron? I still am quite content with my sporty car... 330Ci with some mods. Fast enough for me, and in my eyes, one of the best designs ever... I've had it three years and still catch myself checking it out.

How about a pic of your old beast? 1000 hp?

Damn, thats a sexy mobile, then you add the gullwings...WOW. Not that N.Amer cars can compete, but Ford has been impressing me lately, big time. With the two new retro-inspired sport cars, the Mustang and GT, Ford has found a new fan.

My pops has a 1967 Shelby Cobra GT350 (like this one but Brown and in worse condition). I'd be hard pressed to fall in love with anything else.

I think the Bugatti pumps out the 1000 horses with a 12. Ben, please correct me, that's a wild guess.

btw, SF, this is a brilliant friday posting.

Holy shit!! THATS a Mustang?!

Badass, eh? The GT is out of reach, but this 'stang could make it to my driveway.

The problem with such high end beasts is the inevitable speeding tickets and license suspensions. that's why I'll be glad to pick up a nice MB SLK230 or 320 when I start getting a regular paycheck again.

Yes...but people who can afford such high end beasts can also afford any type of legal representation it takes to STAY on the road...

....besides, we're talking cars, not sense.

BMW M3. I just hope BMW doesn't fuck up the redesign.

All of these cars may be yours for the low, low price of $49.99 when Gran Turismo 4 comes out. All of my faves come from playing the earlier games. The Nissan Skyline GT-R, various TVRs (tho primarily the Cerbera), the Subaru Escudo Pikes Peak Edition with it's twin V6 engines (!), the Ford GT40 . . .

SportsCarFilter...

I miss my Mustang.

Twin V6 Engines!?!?

When I grow up I'm gonna get me one of these: Though, perhaps not in lime-green. By the way, the company I work for has an BMW M5 as it's pool car in our Dutch office. Drool.

Oh man, these ARE sweet cars...

Twin V6 Engines!?!? Indeed. For some unholy reason, once you unlocked it you could use it in any course. The 900+ HP made races a lot easier. Road Runners and Chargers have both shown up in the series (I think the Charger has/will). Since I'm endorsing video games as a way to enjoy these fantasies (vicariously), Midnight Club II has the best sense of speed I've ever seen in a video game.

I want this car: from here

Sixties-seventies MG or Fiat. The DS is up there, too.

I drive an accord. vroooooooooom.

I would argue that most of the cars listed here are actually American Muscle Cars, rather than pure sports cars. A sports car puts handling and braking before just pure accleration, although power is very important. IMO, a sports car doesn't have an engine so large and heavy that weight distribution and balance is thrown out of whack; neither would it have front drum brakes, like most muscle cars from the 1960s. My favourite sports car is a two-seater convertible fibreglass bodied hemi 2.5 litre V8 with 4 wheel Girling disc brakes from England, from a car company usually known for making large luxury cars. Daimler SP250: I also love the Jaguar E type, most Alfa Romeos, and a bunch of other marques. The Corvette is the closest thing the US has to a true sports car, but it's a bit large to be truly tossible like a sports car could be. I have much respect for what I've seen them do on a racetrack or a winding road, but I'd fall in love with them much more easily if they were 3/4 the size.

BC, I just noticed your M5 company car comment. Best. Job. Ever. 'Hon, you'd better hurry up and finish your breakie or you'll be late for that sales meeting.' 'No matter, I've got the M5 this week.'

yerfatma, have you had a chance to play Project Gotham? Looking for a comparison to MC II.
