That is awesome. Those blazers. The chyron operators must have been having a blast.

Wish the unis had been the classic late 60's / early 70's versions that were a big part of my youth.

When I saw Catfish and Reggie in NY pinstripes for the first time, it looked like they had left the Mardi Gras float and gotten jobs in a law office.

"I'm putting out what I feel is the best lineup," Girardi began. "That's my job. That's in my job description."

Standard stuff there. He has crafted the same thought a thousand different ways since Sunday, and really since it became apparent Alex Rodriguez had stopped being a part of his immediate plans. But then Girardi added this, and we got a rare chance to take a peek at a peeled-back onion:

"My job description," Girardi said, "does not entail a farewell tour."

Except, of course, when the farewell tour goes for an entire season (2013 & 2014). Then, in 2014, you had no problem running out the second worst hitter in the American League (76 OPS+) in the #2 spot in the batting order for 141 games, and in the #1 spot for three more games.

I also like how "best lineup" right now includes both Aaron Hicks (48 OPS+) and Mark Teixeira (69 OPS+) for 10 of the past 11 games.

Patrick Roy resigns as head coach (and VP) of the Colorado Avalanche.

I have thought long and hard over the course of the summer about how I might improve this team to give it the depth it needs and bring it to a higher level. To achieve this, the vision of the coach and VP-Hockey Operations needs to be perfectly aligned with that of the organization. He must also have a say in the decisions that impact the team's performance. These conditions are not currently met.
