Pleased to see England gain a historic victory at the WC yesterday, but wish that once again, questionable and inconsistent officiating had not played a notable role - with the whole match, not just the result.

Glad that Laura Bassett was able to play and do well in the aftermath of the devastation and heartbreak of her own goal against Japan. Deeply forthright BBC radio interview with Bassett here.

The way that England had come on in the tournament, they would have made a worthy opponent in today's final.

Feel similar about Copa America. Chile won but only IMO because the referees were afraid to properly discipline the host team players. Physical, fine, but Chile were over the line far too much in the knockout rounds of this tournament. Hell, Jara wasn't even banned until the outcry grew so loud they heard if over the mountains at CONMEBOL HQ.
