Interesting piece from 538 on the NBA Finals that provides some insight into using the NBA's advanced stats for games.

The Mexicans are getting the shaft from the officials today worse than the Croatians last night.

The first disallowed goal was a marginal error, but the second, (Mexican), disallowed goal was awful.

At least they got Cameroon's disallowed goal right. As Meatloaf almost said, one out of three ain't bad.

The service from Blind has been eye catching thus far. Several nice balls before the assist on Van Persie's header.

Spain have ceded its principal South Atlantic trade routes and the Florida peninsula to the Dutch.

Today, the rain of pain fell mainly on Spain.

I could watch this goal over and over again.

If I was playing FIFA and the computer scored on me like that, I'd turn off the machine and throw it out the window.

If there's a better goal this year, I won't know what to do with myself. It . . . well, it was very good. It was to goals what Nigel de Jong's defense in 2010 was to karate.

Some World Cup links from The Economist:

- on Venezuela and a weird bit of photo blurring.

- on home field advantage

- on balls

I'm loving these MLB hi-tech stat videos they put out.

Puig's catch

McCutchen's catch

That game yesterday left me speechless, and if you know me, that's just never happening. RvP's header was magnificent but afterwards Xavi and Co just collapsed. Six goals in the 19 games of the last three tournaments total, five in the first here; Spain may or may not be done and dusted but that loss was one for the ages.

Spain's massive defeat means it won't be winning any tiebreakers to get out of group. That could get interesting.
