Adam Schefter spent some time on Sportscenter reminding us dimwits that Pete Carroll was "the bridge between Parcells and Belichick in New England" and partly responsible for the success of Belichick's defense. No offense to Carroll and what he achieved, but that's a really positive spin on what was essentially a .500 record and a team that gave Belichick his only sub-.500 record with the Pats the next year. By that logic why not credit Parcells? Or Dick MacPherson?
As part of ESPN's obligatory Jump to Conclusions post-championship coverage, the secret to the Seahawks is undrafted free agents. And drafting well in later rounds because a number of their starters weren't drafted in the first 3 rounds. They don't need an ombudsman so much as Aristotle.

Went up to Lincoln, NH to watch the Super Bowl with my son who was up skiing at Loon Mt. Didn't bring my laptop with me, so I'm a bit late commenting on the game.
The game was really disappointing. I didn't much care about the outcome -- there really was no good outcome for a Patriots fan -- but it looked like Denver was never really ready to be there. Seattle showed the efficacy of good preparation, good execution of the things they normally do, and the benefits of having a really good defense.
The commercials this year were really disappointing. The only notable ones were the stray puppy and Clydesdale bit from Budweiser and the time machine thing from Doritos. The time machine one had been previewed, so it lost some of its impact for me. Did the people who buy the air time know something we did not?
I watched portions of both the Puppy Bowl and the Kitty Bowl until the "cuteness" factor threatened to raise my blood glucose levels beyond what is safe. The best thing about these two shows is that the animals are all up for adoption. I would have my name in for a couple of the kittens, but I already have 3 adult cats, and I am in no need of further spontaneous entertainment.
Now that football is finally out of the way, all I can say is "Pitchers and catchers report in 12 days".

I came across that over the weekend, and I've been going through the past posts and I have to stop. My stomach hurts too much from laughing. I know they've also messed around with the NBA and NHL games, so I'll go looking for those as well when I'm done.

I fear that historical moment is going to be overshadowed up here in Canada when this gets under way.

.. Having guys with linebacker size and 4.4 speed playing defensive back. If one was to rank the top 10 dbs in the NFL 4 would be Seahawks, including Chancellor at #1.

Yeah, if you were to construct a team from whole cloth to match against Peyton Manning, you'd come up with something much like the Seahawks. I'm amazed that "Defense wins championships" was given such short shrift by the talking heads (and Vegas) this time around.

The "Breaking Madden" stuff was great. Found myself scaring the cats by laughing uncontrollably. The short gif of "Mom" being knocked over by the snap was eerily similar to Denver's first play from scrimmage.
