Is this the answer?: Admittedly the Dodgers hitting has been downright atrocious for stretches this season. But who's to blame? Clark or the players? Is this really a "fresh start"? Or is it yet another indictment of modern baseball? As far the Dodgers are concerned I think so.

Okay the Dodgers are currently 13.5 out of the Division, and 6.5 back for the wild card. Lets see what happens now.

The problem is too many unproductive/injured players. Izturis, Beltre, McGriff, Jordan, LoDuca, Roberts, Burnitz to name a few. I don't know what any coach can do about that many problem children.

Clark was the hitting coach last year when they were 5th in the league in hitting. I doubt he did anything different coming into this year. There's my answer ...

Tangent: while we're somewhat on the subject of Jack Clark, can anyone tell me where I can find a player's career stats against individual teams? Jack Clark absolutely destroyed the Pirates during his career but I haven't been able to find the exact figures...

Mookieproof here's where you can find the stats. Click on Splits then scroll to the bottom it will show the total hitting stats vs. teams he played against for that given year. Clicking Dailies will provide you with boxscores for each individual game.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks Jack Clark would be such a fantastic hitting coach. I remember watching his mammoth swing and thinking, "You know, if he'd cut that down a tad, he'd hit 20 points higher every year." Hitting the ball an extra 30 feet over the fence didn't tack another run onto his average. I guess the question is this — how much does the performance of a player foreshadow his ability as a coach?
