Former reserve driver for the Marussia Formula 1 team Maria De Villota has been found dead in her hotel room.

De Villota suffered serious head injuries and lost an eye last year when her Marussia car hit a truck in testing, but was cleared to return to driving earlier this year.

Today's SportsCenter is featuring a segment called "MANNING MELTDOWN".

Anyone else hate the Cardinals? I still have nightmares in which Nelson Cruz is just a few feet from making a World Series-clinching catch and he short-legs it, thinking himself much closer to a collision with the wall than he really is.

Please, Dodgers. Free us from the collective horror of seeing the Best Fans in Baseball exultant in celebration. Seeing the Cards win again would be like Mitt Romney winning the lottery.

I'm with you rcade. I thought Drew Magary's "Why the Cardinals Suck" article on Deadspin was hilarious; but the comedic gold was nothing compared to the response he got from angry Cardinals fans. Good god, I hope the writers of those emails, letters, and tweets aren't truly representative of the Cards fan base (but I suspect otherwise). The absolute dearth of a sense of humor or ability to poke fun at their own team and/or city was pathetic. I already hated the Cards (as a Reds fan), but now I hate them as a sports fan.

We would never think of sending our governor to do a mobster's job.

I don't hate the Cardinals, but I'm pulling for a Dodgers' win. The reason? If Boston gets by Detroit, once again will be heard the chant; Beat L A, Beat LA. Yes, it's a basketball thing, but it translates to other sports.

Really? C'mon man.

Maybe that didn't get printed as sarcastically as I heard it in my head.

Yeah, more or less. I'll give them Game 6 in 2011, because fuck the Rangers, but Magary highlights the bullshit midwestern piousness that sours them to me. And they usually manage to win in joyless ways.

Also, Tony LaRussa's whining still echoes.

As a San Diegan, where the "Beat LA" chant occurs at every home game vs. the Dodgers, this is one of those series where I can't really root for anybody. The rare times that the Padres have made it to the postseason, they frequently get bounced out by the Cardinals, and we're just required by law to hate anything from LA. So I'm rooting for "Major PED scandal involving everybody on the field results in instant 80 game suspensions" or some other thing where neither LA or St Louis has any chance at the WS once they advance.
