Chris Christie Endorses NFL Team: "My favorite football team is not the New York Giants," New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) told a group of elementary school students in Parlin, N.J., Tuesday. "It's not the New York Jets and it's not the Philadelphia Eagles. My favorite football team [is] ..."

Christie, who was a year behind me in school growing up, would have probably caught the Roger Staubach era Cowboys fever. For sure the Giants and Jets sucked the whole decade of the '70s, hardly inspiring young fans' devotion. Given his politics, which I was unaware of back then ;), also not too surprising.

Good stuff, that. Although I have it on good authoruty that it was well after Labor Day when that picture was taken, making Duguay a fashion scofflaw.
In other news, they sure build hockey players differently these days.

One of my fellow church-goers wears his Cowboys jacket every Sunday when seasonable. This is in die-hard Patriots' country and in a parish with a dedicated NY Yankees fan in the pulpit. Needless to say, sports is a big part of life in the church. We tolerate Jerry and his Cowboys affiliation, although that could change with the Patriots' fortunes. One ugly loss to Dallas and Jerry might have troubles at the Eucharist.

I'm still a firm believer of rooting for your local side, but I'm not shocked that he's a Cowboys fan. I knew quite a few Cowboys and 49ers fans growing up. This was due to either who their parents were fans of or which team/player was big at the time they started following the NFL. Same with hockey. I'm a lifelong resident of NJ, but I'm a Rangers fan because I fell in love with Ron Duguay before the Devils came to town.
