Overnight dispatch from the NFL's Diplomatic Mission stationed in Western Pennsylvania regarding the injury to Roethlisberger:

"You obviously worry about it because that's your starting quarterback, you want to see him out there," Pittsburgh linebacker James Harrison said. "But at the same point in time you've got a guy, two guys that are behind him can do the job just as well if not better."

Which is amazing, given Jon Gruden said Roethlisberger was the best QB in the league. Unless that was just hyperbole due to the fact he was in the game Gruden was watching.

Sounds like it wasn't just quarterbacks who suffered head injuries this weekend...

Best QB in the league? Not.

One of the best in a big game situation? You bet.

He He. That must have been your voice in my head saying that as Chuckie lionized Ben.

Quick poll: Who is the best QB in the NFL right now?

Let's all vote for Philip Rivers to help grease the skids.

Norv "went off" at a reporter after the latest Chargers' loss. Norv's version of "going off" sounded like Fred Armisen's character giving traffic directions on Saturday Night Live's "The Californians".

Quick poll: Who is the best QB in the NFL right now?

Quick answers:

Career: Peyton Manning
Single season: Tom Brady
This season: Matt Ryan
Must win next game: Aaron Rodgers
Must win next playoff game: Eli Manning

Note: I might have missed someone obvious.

I think Norv's exit at the end of the season is pretty much a fait accompli at this point, and I'll be happy about it just because I won't have to listen to his mealy-mouthed press conferences any more, but I really, really dread seeing what washed-up retread the ownership brings in to replace him.

In the FA Cup, the pairing of MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon has some history.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand is deciding whether or not Man United should have him.

Personally, I've yet to decide whether Scarlett Johannson or Maggie Gyllenhaal should have me.

Owl, your options have slimmed a bit.

I just signed an agreement to become Ms. Johansson's biographer.

Just avoid email.

You can get her to post in the Locker Room instead. No-one goes there.

Co-ed locker rooms can be a bit intimidating.

How Turner even got hired in SD is still incomprehensible to me. He's an awesome coordinator and terrible head coach, but apparently can mesmerize GMs with blarney about how this time it'll be different.

posted by billsaysthis at 12:32 PM on November 14, 2012

And Turner was brought in to replace Schottenheimer, when the whole problem with Schottenheimer was that even though he'd built the team up into a contender that would reliably play a consistent, decent game during the regular season, he couldn't win a playoff game. Prior to Schottenheimer, the Chargers had mostly taken chances on promoting college coaches and NFL coordinators to the top spot and gotten burned, so I kind of understand their aversion to doing that again, but trading Schottenheimer for Turner didn't even make any sense at the time.

Previous thread two years ago on the (unfulfilled) prospect of a MK Dons - AFC Wimbledon cup tie. The same feelings apply now that it's a reality: many AFC fans won't travel to Milton Keynes, and AFC has officially requested that Franchise FC drop "Dons" from its name.
