MLB Post-Season Pick 'Em, LDS Edition: No time for chit-chat! Games start tonight!

posted by DrJohnEvans to fantasy at 12:44 PM - 15 comments

I'm still working on the results table and will post it as soon as it's done. In the meantime, I present:

THE LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES

Detroit Tigers (88-74) vs Oakland Athletics (94-68) - begins October 6, 6:00pm

Baltimore Orioles (93-69) vs New York Yankees (95-67) - begins October 7, 6:00pm

Cincinnati Reds (97-65) vs San Francisco Giants (94-68) - begins October 6, 9:30pm

St Louis Cardinals (88-74) vs Washington Nationals (98-64) - begins October 7, 3:00pm

THE PICKS

Pick the winner of each series, and the number of games which said victory would require.

THE YADIER MOLINA MAGIC BONUS PICK

Pick the stolen base success ratio (CS / SB) for all players in the LDS, rounded to the nearest 5%. Example: 80%.

THE BUCK SHOWALTER MAGIC BULLPEN BONUS PICK

Pick the league, AL or NL, that will amass the greatest number of blown saves in their LDS.

Total points available: 10 (8 LDS + 1 Molina Bonus + 1 Buck Bonus)

Given the short turnaround, I will allow bonus picks to submitted up until the beginning of Monday's games. I've picked bonus questions which use stats that can be a little more volatile in small sample sizes, so it should still be a fair challenge.

Good luck!

Darvish beats out Medlen by a third of an inning to grab the pitching bonus. In Triple Crown land, it's Nate McClouth and David Ross with 2 RsBI each.

CORRECTING MY OWN MISTAKE

In my haste to get the post up, I screwed up the Molina Bonus instructions. It should NOT be CS / SB. That is just silly. It should in fact be:

Stolen Bases / Stolen Base Attempts

or SB / (SB + CS) if you prefer. Sorry about that!

Oakland A's over the Detroit Tigers in 4
Baltimore Orioles over the New York Yankees in 4
San Francisco Giants over the Cincinnati Reds 4
Washington Nationals over the St. Louis Cardinals in 3

I think the managers will be conservative on steals, and only try when it seems very safe, so I pick 85%

The National League will have the most blown saves.

Just got access to the PC, so my Molina/Buck picks are a tad late. I hope they are acceptable, nonetheless.

Buck: AL

As I was going by your CS/SB metric in my original post, please allow me to change my Molina pick to what it would be by the proper metric: 75%

ursus_comiter: Accepted! It was your pick that flagged the mistake for me, after all.
