Five years ago today, one of the best examples why baseball "saves" are a meaningless statistic happened.

With his team ahead 14-3, Wes Littleton pitched the final 3 innings, and got the save as the Rangers BARELY hung on to beat the Orioles, 30-3.

Stop me if you've heard this before:

Baseball player from Bay area team is suspended 50 games for failing a drug test.

Why couldn't he have done that with the Red Sox so he could last more than 4 innings?

Mike Trout is having a really, really good year.

He actually had a positive test while with the Red Sox, but MLB gave him a pass as the substance is also used for promoting rapid growth in chickens.

Mike Trout is having a really, really good year.

Trout is the most complete ball player to come along since Griffey Junior.

Nice.

I saw one on Twitter today that made me chuckle: "Bartolo Colon expects to be fully vindicated in the appeal process. He unknowingly ate Melky Cabrera."

It's not fair to single out Colon - a significant portion of the Sox clubhouse tested positive for rapid chicken growth last year.

a significant portion of the Sox clubhouse tested positive for rapid chicken growth last year.

...and then mistakenly thought that Bud Light had the effect of masking the use of the chicken.
