Remember RBI Baseball for the Nintendo Entertainment System?

Well, Dan Szymborski (of Baseball Think Factory and ESPN) has created an updated ROM of the game that uses the current 2012 rosters and the ZiPS projection for statistics.

Must have been watching old Red Wings video for inspiration and holiday ideas.

Yeah, it looks like he got run while holding onto the puck. It also looks like he grabbed someone's head and smashed it into the boards.

I think the Wings should resign McCarty to a one game contract so he can get in a fight to start game 2.

Man, I've always had a hell of a lot of respect for Weber as a hard-nosed throwback defenseman. I hate to see that bush league shit.

Yeah and if he did get run before this incident, it's the playoffs, pick your spots better. Not saying that Weber shouldn't look for retaliation, just keep it clean 'n legal. And if Scott Stevens has taught us anything, the clean 'n legal line gets pushed forward quite a bit in the playoffs.

posted by NoMich at 11:39 AM on April 12

Wow! All Weber got was a $2500 fine. I guess that clean 'n legal line got pushed a bit more forward.

Saw this tweet. "@felixpotvin
Shea Weber fined 0.03% of his annual income. If you earn $40k the fine equivalent would be $13."

I wish I could get away with paying 13 bucks to bash someone's head in.

I'm assuming you're referring to the hit that left Ron Francis out on his feet back in '01? It was definitely a hit to the head, and would be against the rules now, but I don't recall it being illegal at the time. I recall it being a hit to the head, but with a shoulder. Francis had the puck at the time. I guess a case could be made that he left his feet, but, to me it looked like it was on the follow through. Same with the Lindros hit in '00. That was shoulder to head (which was down) in the open ice.

And Paul Kariya? No comment.

Heck, I'd throw in a couple more bucks if I could choose the who.

Somebody ask Brendan Shanahan how safe the players feel with that kind of "punishment?" for the assault on Zetterberg. Zeke would be better filing assault charges at the Police station. Really $2500 for a repeat offender. So obviously Bettman was consulted. The NHL should be ashamed of themselves for allowing the way the refs called that one last night. I've lost ALL respect for Brendan who was explaining calls on video on the NHL website. What a hypocrite! So is that the standard for a REPEAT offender? If $2500 is the going rate, will it be the same across the league. If one of the Red Wings came to Zetterbergs aid and put his stick half way up Shea's backside, would that be half a game? Or would the fine be like $20 an inch? No control from the NHL officials on this incident. Maybe they should ask the players instead of Brendan because it doesn't seem that he has the players best interest at heart.

Don't dress McCarty see if we can get Brock Lesnar.

I'm not sure how the two least penalized teams in the NHL managed to send a continuous stream of players to the box last night. Mike Babcock remarked that, with Gary Bettman in attendance, the officials obviously want to get to the Stanley Cup too.

The fine on Weber is ridiculous. But then again, it is hard to get suspended in the playoffs doing anything short of wielding a stick as a club.

Because, as you suggested, it's the playoffs. We were discussing the incident over lunch (and too many beers): the general agreement is it would be a 3 game vacation in the regular season and definitely just a 1 game in the playoffs.

The $2,500 thing makes it feel like Zetterberg slept with Shannahan's wife back in the day. Why not just fine Zetterberg for getting his head in the way?

"Lito Sheppard is the biggest pussy mf'er in the world if u c him tell him I said it & it's whatever."

"Ain't nobody fucked my wife but for anybody saying any slick shit better watch ur girl and not let me get hold to her."

Jabar should space out his grievances. Sharing them simultaneously gives people the wrong idea.

That photo looks like the kid is drinking something with a lid on top (one of those hot drink lids) and something around the outside. It would be comical to think he's sneaking a beer, but it doesn't appear to be when you look at it closer.
