Golfer Murdered by Armed Robber During Round: On Jan. 13, two golfers at the 17th tee at Deerfield Country Club in Deerfield Beach, Fl., were confronted by masked armed robbers demanding their money. Golfer Lataurus Randall, 35, was shot in the back by a robber and died a day later. The robbers have not been caught. "When these guys showed up, I first thought it was a joke," said his playing partner Melvin Philpart. "I said to one of them, 'What do you think you're doing out here? This is a golf course.'"

Another ridiculous story. Tragedies under the craziest of circumstances. I didn't read why the victim "tussled" with one of the robbers, but I hope it wasn't a case of someone losing their life because they didn't want their wallet, money, etc. taken. It's just not worth it.

Nuts. I get so annoyed when random crime stories make sure to tell everyone to be vigilant. How would vigilance have helped? Every crime can't be prevented by vigilance.

I wondered what vigilance would have done too. Golf carts don't outrun bullets.

I would have taken out my trusty 9mm and shot the round of my life !

vigilance, maybe no help ... change the c to a t AND ... vigilante

They wouldn't have gotten much from me. I didn't like having stuff in my pockets when I played, so I left everything except a little pocket change locked up in my car. True, the car might have been broken into while I was playing, but at least I wouldn't have been in the line of fire in that case.

On edit: NEPABob, you would be under clubbed with a 9mm. I would suggest at least a well struck .357 magnum, or going for the green with a .44 magnum.

"vigilance, maybe no help ... change the c to a t AND ... vigilante"

Self-defense is not vigilantism.
