Pitcher and Husband Kris Benson Retires from Baseball: Major League pitcher Kris Benson, the first overall pick in 1996, is retiring from baseball and taking the game's most loquacious bodacious wife with him. Benson won just 70 games over his 11 seasons, earning more than $38 million in salary. Yahoo's Big League Stew blog blames injuries: "Considering his medical history, it's remarkable and admirable that he was able to make 200 starts, win 70 games, and pitch 1,243 2/3 innings." Benson's wife Anna was so outspoken during his season with the New York Mets that sportswriter Murray Chass wrote, "Kris Benson doesn't have a good enough arm for the Mets to overlook his wife's mouth."

Wonder what Murray Chass would say about this year's Jets. I think Woody Johnson has had to do a whole lot more overlooking than he would like. Hard to imagine this is what he had in mind.
Speaking of which, wonder what would happen if someone handed Anna Benson a mike and sent her into the Jets locker room?

Chris Benson must be hung like a friggin horse. He is the epitomy of mediocrity. Looks build, net worth (for baseball players). I've heard him interviewed. He is as exciting as a door.
So what the hell does she see in him?

She sees whatever is left of 38 million dollars. Though I think the number was more like 28 million dollars. And if you are spending enough time in strip bars to meet your future wife, who knows what would be left?

It baffles me that his wife enters the discussion at all. She's not the one playing the game; who gives a shit what her opinion is on it all? Does it only matter because she's a former stripper who bares it all for FHM and Maxim and etc? That's pretty weak. I had no idea Kris Benson was married to this woman and frankly, I never really care about the baseball spouses, because they're not the ones on the field every day. It irks me when people try to bring TMZesque drama to the baseball field when it doesn't belong there. Let the game be the game!

People pay attention to Anna Benson because she's hilarious. The stripper and Maxim stuff helped, but there are a lot of hot wags in sports who get no attention. Benson is a great quote.
