Sun Bowl Players Ordered Not to Visit Mexico: Players for Miami and Notre Dame universities have been ordered not to cross the border into Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, while in El Paso to play the Sun Bowl. Coaches confiscated their passports before the trip. More than 3,000 people have been killed in the Mexican city this year due to drug-war violence. "Don't go over the border, or you may not come back," Notre Dame football head coach Brian Kelly said.

I have little to say other than that I agree with this.

I absolutely agree with this. Never was much to see in that city, and with the recent increase in violence, no reason for college kids to venture over the border.

They want to cross a border? Have them go into New Mexico. Las Cruces is a beautiful city just up the road, and they can stop at the casino on the way.

Yea, I was talking to some snow-birds (Minnesotans who go down to the Padre Island in Texas- close enough to the border) and they mentioned how even a few years ago, they all went across the border for dental work, stock on on meds, etc. Now, there's only one border town they can safely go to, and even then, they make sure to be careful.

They could always send in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl Hurricanes to clean up the town.

Were Ricky Bobby and Cal Naughton, Jr available for comment?

This is a total violation of the rights of football players to see donkey shows.

Really have to hand it to the Chicago Tribune for including that photo with the article. Talk about driving the point home... in a hearse.

I'm gonna guess they weren't going to Juarez to begin with.

Crossing the border to Mexico is one of the best reasons to attend the Sun Bowl. I had a good time going from Browsnville, Texas, over to Matamoros during a South Padre Island spring break in college.

I hope that Mexico can somehow get a grip on the violence. The death toll is unbelievable.
