Cliff Lee Likely to Get 7-Year Deal: The market for pitcher Cliff Lee is moving towards a seven-year deal, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The New York Yankees gave CC Sabathia a seven-year, $161 million contract two years ago, but at 32 Lee is four years older than Sabathia was.

That means he'll be on pace to be traded at least another 21 times.

Assuming the rumors about Washington being in the mix and the signing they just made, can somebody explain where the hell they are getting the money from? Did they get a fed bailout that the press missed?

It sounds like the Nats are going the anti-Pohlad approach and the ownership is dipping into their personal wealth (Lerner family estimated wealth being in the multiple billion range) because the patriarch of the family wants a winner while he is alive and the son is just an impatient SOB who wants to win now.

I suppose that would work as long as you have no creditors and no plans to sell the team, because you will never get anyone to assume all that future liability. Of course, that assumes that they are able to make a deal.

"...the son is just an impatient SOB who wants to win now."

Is he related to George Steinbrenner?

For the Nationals to "win now," it will take a lot more than Lee and Werth. Like I said in the Werth thread, he (Lee) would go to the Nationals for a huge contract, then a few years in they will be crying about the money they owe the guy and look to dump him.
