Last night, another chapter in the saga of the storied Jags franchise.

There are different ways to attain that status. One is by being part of a lot of historic moments over a period of years.

Another is by not doing a lot of hiring and firing, so that announcers find themselves compelled to say things like: "Del Rio is only the second coach in the history of this storied franchise".

Anyone seen The Tillman Story? I'm going to the British premier tomorrow night and wondering what to expect.

JJ, only heard the critical acclaim, which is considerable.

How are the Jags a storied franchise? Brother, please, that is just typical useless announcer BS! Exactly what I hate about TV coverage, the ridiculous grandiosity and exaggeration of nearly every play.

I mean how many great QBs, running backs, receivers, DEs or linebackers can be playing in the NFL at any one time? Payton Manning, great QB, Eli Manning, very good QB. But that doesn't help pump viewers up during a telecast.

Red Sox, Yankees, Steelers, Cowboys, Canadiens, Red Wings, those are storied franchises in major US pro sports. Jags, not so much.

After watching the Premiership for a while, I feel like the British announcers are refreshingly short on hype compared to their American counterparts. It seems like half the airtime in the average NFL game is spent talking about what exemplary and talented and dedicated and hard-working people the star players are.

And fantasy owners across the country going against Chris Johnson broke their TV's during the last two minutes of the game.

Go back and listen to the call of the winning touchdown in the Ice Bowl (the NFL Championship between Green Bay and Dallas in 1967). It is an understated breath of fresh air compared to the out of control jerk offs on TV today.

Now get off my lawn, god damn it.

How are the Jags a storied franchise?

In the ironic sense, I'd imagine.

Or 80% of the time if it's Jon Gruden's mouth doing the moving. I made a promise to have a shot every time he said "I like this guy", but I passed out before halftime.

So all the marketing by shoe companies can't be true - or the shoes would be banned. NBA bans performance enhancing Concept 1s. I wonder how Nike/Reebok/Adidas/Li-Ning will spin this . . .

No, but I can't wait. I read Krakauer's book, Where Men Win Glory and have been anxious to see how this story translates to film.

Gosh, I do think this is important, not trivial, stuff.

I'll report back on the Tillman Story tomorrow. We're going with the producer (John Battsek - Once in Lifetime, The Game of Their Lives, Crossing the Line, One Day in September). I think there's going to be a Q&A afterwards.
