Compare part of what was discussed yesterday here with this quote from Maddon after the Michael Young home-run following a questionable check-swing call ... ""The Rangers have outplayed us for two consecutive nights, so I've got to give them all the credit," Maddon said. "You can't win games by just getting two hits, but I had to make my point. ... That's all that was about." ... Orlando Cabrera of the Reds might want to take a pointer.

I was at the game. Looking at the photo, the Rays fans at the Trop had a good reason to be outraged. That was strike three.

Young hit a three-run homer on the next pitch.

Liverpool could face a points penalty.

Yes, they can be outraged, as can many fans regarding numerous calls (already) during the postseason. But, as we've discussed in the past, chalk it up to that quaint, quirky human element that makes baseball what it is. I'm not saying I agree with it at all, because umpiring in general sucks, but as long as the sport revolves around judgement calls with something as subjective as ball and strike calls, swing vs. non-swing calls, etc. you'll get this constantly.

I guess that's what they call a country mile.

I am OK with the subjectivity of baseball officiating. This was just an amazingly bad call, and even though Young was hitless in the series up to that point, I figured he was going to do something good with the opportunity.

Sweet, the Hurricanes get out of Finland with four points. Now onto a west coast road trip. Nice job, scheduling monkey.

The Rays fans can whine all they want about the two calls. These type of calls happen all season long and sometimes are right and sometimes are wrong. Did the player get hit or not? Did it hit the bat or the batter? Did he check the swing in time or not? To think that all of a sudden because it is postseason, the calls are going to magically be exactly right when it is essentially a judgment call is ridiculous. Fact is the Rangers just outplayed the Rays for those two games, and the final scores seem to indicate these calls made no difference in the final outcome. Of course, we will never be able to tell without a time machine.

One game in, Pavel Datsyuk's Lady Byng nomination may be on shaky ground, as he dropped the gloves against Corey Perry...

F1 qualifying may not go ahead as it's raining and the current crop of drivers are pussies.
