High School Hires Female Football Coach: The new head football coach at Calvin Coolidge Senior High School in Washington, D.C., is Natalie Randolph, a former semipro football player with the D.C. Divas in the Independent Women's Football League. "When we heard that Ms. Randolph was the new coach, a lot of us thought it was a joke," said player Daniel West. "I was like, 'Ms. Randolph? The science teacher here? No way.'"

Are Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson on the team?

from the article: "I hope that they know that I really don't care about winning football games," she said. "But I do care about school. My players will be productive citizens someday, not delinquents on a curb. Athletes are just not made to do academics enough, and that's nationwide. But I'm going to change that."

I love it, and I hope they give her the time needed to turn the program around. In too many areas, a coach that doesn't win wouldn't get the time to prove they improved the academic achievements.

Members of the hiring committee said she won the job over more than 15 other applicants...because she emphasized one thing that those men did not: helping the players in the classroom.

Well, she'll never amount to anything with priorities like that.

Not to bring any more smut into this thread then there already is, but there are practical questions about the locker room and showers when the young men are changing. This is a train wreck waiting to happen.

It would not be difficult for her to stay out of the locker room while the players are showering and dressing. There's no rule in football that coaches must be present while players are nude, though one coach at my junior high seemed to think it was mandatory.

...because male coaches never cause any problems?

There are tons of males coaching female teams, the locker room issue seems to be one that is controllable.

To clarify, are you put off by your own lame joke? It's really annoying when people get preemptively upset by what they assume the response from everyone will be.

Hmm... my previous comment isn't showing up or was deleted. Eh... to respond directly to your fake question: I'm put-off by what I know to be true. High schools run the spread. Football is a no girls zone. High schools run the spread as one of the most predominant offenses in the country. I know this game. I know what people say. It makes me wince IN ADVANCE (YES!) because it is obvious and therefore sad/gross.

Also, I have never been nor intend to be a member of the Communist Party. Oh, I've never had a homosexual experience/relationship. Also, I am allergic to cantaloupe.

Anything else?

what I know to be true . . . Football is a no girls zone.

What you "know" isn't so. Just ask Holly Mangold.

It was not a fake question. Your first comment is effectively making the lame sexist joke about this hire that you want to feign disgust about. Look at the other comments. No one else is making those jokes, just you. If you really don't want to hear them, don't start them.
