Someone get me a copy of this month's Vanity Fair. And a fitting finish to the Serie A championship:

"If you win we'll beat you up," bellowed the Lazio fans a few hours later at the Stadio Olimpico, and their words were not aimed at the opposition.

Jeff Feagles retired last week.

He was the last remaining active player from the fantastic Tecmo Bowl video game released for the NES in 1989.

The officiating was terrible in last night's Wings game. Although Nabakov could have an excellent soccer career with those diving abilities.

I assume you weren't talking about the "too-many-men" penalty at the end, right? That was probably the easiest call the refs have had to make in a LONG time. It was like half the Detroit bench jumped on the ice at the same time.

Nah. It was the goalie interference and the holding call (both on Bertuzzi) that annoyed me.

Of course, with the way Lidstrom's stick exploded on an odd man rush it would seem karma was against the Wings last night.

Another prayer answered: I just saw that Shinn has agreed to divest his interest in the N.O. Hornets.

Wonder what would have happened if he'd done that a few years ago when the Hornets were doing well in NC? That was a happening franchise until he went and ruint a good thing.

("Ruint" is what Larry Bird said had happened to his steak in a regional mid-80's TV ad that became a minor cornerstone of New England popular lore. He was fairly emphatic about it - to the point where it startled a few people).

Slightly related: Best breakaway by a player without a stick.

YYM, I don't know if Bertuzzi was holding when he got that penalty but he put his stick between the Sharks' player's legs and slammed it up into the guy's groin. That has to be a penalty!!

I think he studied under Osgood.

Wings looked old and tired last night, don't blame the officiating. The worst call of the entire game was the Heatley goaltender interference - an obvious make up call.

As for diving abilities, Tomas Holmstrom is by far the gold standard in all of professional hockey.

The gold standard? Hardly. If the back of his jersey said Crosby or Ovechkin maybe the refs would call at least a few of the hacks he receives over the course of the game.

Holmstrom has trouble staying on his skates when he's in an empty rink. It's like watching Bambi try to walk for the first time whenever he jumps over the boards. He's not diving, just unstable...

Speaking of diving goalies, though, Jimmy Howard tried to draw a penalty last night by flopping into the net...except it was Rafalski that bumped him as he chased Setagouchi around the net. Luckily, it didn't cost the Wings another goal...

Don't fret YYM. It'll be different in Detroit. I think this goes back 2-2. Those were close games.

And Holmsrtom doesn't complain. He stands where you SHOULD get hacked. It's his role, and he's embraced it. Crosby and Ovechkin don't play anything close to that game.

Holmstrom must have one of the highest tolerances for pain in NHL history. I've never seen anyone take so much abuse in front of the net. It's almost comical at times watching him get knocked around.

He learned from the best.

I think your crystal ball needs a new battery. the Wings have no answer for that Pavelski led line. Detroit is gonna fold like your grandma's old linen.

They don't need an answer to the Pavelski line. Joe Thornton and the Shark's history of shrinking when the games count will take care of things for them.

If Team Canada can get by in the Olympics without Thornton/Marleau/Heatley contributing, I think the Sharks can too.

Demo, we got rid of Cheechoo and made Blake captain, no more shrinking gonads from the playoff cold.

OK. That's one way to interpret two 4-3 wins by the Sharks at home.

Pavelski has been hot like fire, but also incredibly lucky on a couple of those bounces.

Hey, I have the Sharks winning the series, but so far I haven't seen some kind of one-sided monster.
