Shadow Boxing: ESPN's Outside the Lines feature on search for Sweet Jimmy Robinson, one of the first people to fight Muhammad Ali.

Robinson fought Cassius Clay on February 7, 1961, at the Miami Beach Convention Center (where Clay later fought Sonny Liston).

Stephen Singer's collection of Ali memorabilia includes autographs of all of the boxers that fought Ali, except Robinson.

The article concludes with a roundup of the fates of some of Ali's opponents. Getting "shot through the heart with a high-powered rifle outside a Reno whorehouse" wasn't the most depressing one.

Wow! Thanks for posting this kirk, this was a powerful piece. I ussed to live in Miami and remember Overtown very well because I made it a point to never go there. I live in New Jersey and that part of town was like a war zone and worse than some of the worst projects around these parts.
