Fiery end for Hawks' Dale Tallon; Stan Bowman named GM: The Blackhawks confirmed the firing of general manager Dale Tallon and replaced him with assistant GM Stan Bowman on Tuesday. Tallon will stay on as senior advisor of hockey operations. Apparently the Hawks’ blunder of last week, in which the contractual procedures involving eight restricted free agents wasn’t handled properly, cost Tallon his job. President John McDonough said as much during an afternoon press conference at the United Center to introduce Bowman. Asked if the change in leadership would have been made without last week’s fiasco, McDonough said "probably not."

$4.5M over the cap wasn't such a a smoovemove on Tallon's part, nor was planning to sign Toews, Kane, and Keith for $3m/per each next year. But Hawks' brass doesn't have to sound so damn happy about promoting Stan Bowman, especially with Tallon still working for the team.
