CD Swap 2009: The groups have been set and the emails have been sent! Sorry to those who have missed out!

posted by BoKnows to gametime at 10:05 PM - 38 comments

Although many of you are standing outside of my house begging to join up, the groups have been set and it is good.

Group 1:

Ying Yang Mafia
BoKnows
boredom_08
cjets

Group 2:

Folkways
owlhouse
goddam
geekyguy

Thanks to all for participating and please, please follow through with mailing your cd's. I was thinking of setting a mailing deadline around Feb 14th. That's right sweetie, who wouldn't want a fresh club mix for Love Day? Is that too soon for anyone?

posted by BoKnows at 10:10 PM on January 24, 2009

Okay, I've just about got my 2-disc mix figured out. One will be a cd of various mainstream hits, and the other will be the "Weird Al" versions of those same songs.

There's a playlist in my iTunes that will start accumulating the most random stuff I can possibly come up with. I've got a different bit of stuff, so we'll see what you gentlemen think. Mine should be in the mail end of next week, assuming I don't have a gigantic paper I've forgotten about.

posted by boredom_08 at 01:18 PM on January 28, 2009

My cds should be in the mail by Monday, so keep a look out!!

posted by BoKnows at 07:02 PM on January 28, 2009

What is the best way to send the CD's?

posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 08:09 PM on January 28, 2009

YYM - I get special CD mailers from my local post office - they fit about 2-3 thin ones. Using them should get you the lowest postage, too.

posted by owlhouse at 09:43 PM on January 28, 2009

Yep, USPS - Media Mail.

assuming I don't have a gigantic paper I've forgotten about.

I had a gigantic paper once, I think it came with my Cheech and Chong album "Up in Smoke".

We used it one night and were so fucked up that even trying to walk was a problem.

I hope to be able to post my 2 to 3 CD playlist on iTunes for those who have an account you should be able to sample and chose what you want. CD's will be sent as soon as I can get them narrowed down to fit.

All joking aside, I've finalized my mix and it will be a 2 disc-er. The first disc will be a hip-hop dance mix - in chronological order. Everything from Curtis Mayfield to The King of Pop, Beastie Boys and Flo Rida. The second disc will be a RAVE style mix in case you have some spare X lying around. (Artists include The Orb, The Prodigy, Daft Punk and DJ Zero.)

Full track list to come after I mail them out! There has to be some sort of suspense, right?

posted by BoKnows at 06:22 PM on January 30, 2009

Thats cool Bo, I'm just going on past swaps. I like surprises but alas I'm not in your group this year.

posted by Folkways at 06:25 PM on January 30, 2009

Not directed at you, Folkways. But if I give up my full track list now, my group may have their "return to sender" stamp ready, and I just can't handle that emotionally right now.

posted by BoKnows at 06:31 PM on January 30, 2009

I seriously doubt that your group would do that, not that I think you should post the lists yet. Looking forward to the new stuff I'll be getting I love hearing the stuff other people around the world are listening to.

I don't know, maybe listening to my mix over and over clicked a memory. My wife (at the time) and I ued to go to the Gold's Gym in Anniston Alabama to work out. It was owned by Kevin Green (Some of you may know who he is) anyway my now ex-wife and his wife struck up a friendship. Long story short he asked me to spot him while he benchched much more weight than I could pick up. Our friendship lasted until he retired from the NFL and sold the gym and moved out of Anniston. But that is not what I wanted to say. Our oldest son was like about 7yrs old at the time and he had troubled saying the words to Euro Trash Girl. It came out as You're a Trash Girl and he was singing it in the childcare room the gym had provided. Needless to say we got a talking too one night about midnight when we finally left to go to the Green's place on the mountain.

My cds were dropped in the mail today. Please let me know when you receive them! Track list to come.

posted by BoKnows at 08:33 PM on February 05, 2009

Just completed my list, looks like it'll end up a 3-CD set. I'll include a letter with a tracklist, and I need to go buy more CD-Rs, as I'm actually running out. It might not get on the road by the weekend, but I will do my utmost.

After putting my list together, I realize how ridiculously odd my taste in music is. I'll probably put it up on here as well as including it in the letter.

Mine were posted yesterday (a 2 CD set). Allow a little longer for delivery, since our postal service goes around anti-clockwise.

posted by owlhouse at 03:27 PM on February 11, 2009

Anti-clockwise kind of sounds like there is some manner of hearty objection to going clockwise. We here in the states use the term counter-clockwise, which sounds like we're just trying to be different.
