SportsFilter is Moving We're moving this site to new software and a new server this weekend. I will post updates to my Twitter feed and weblog as needed, so check those if the site can't be loaded.

Woohoo! Good luck.

The server I understand, but new software? Any details?

We're moving from a Windows 2000 server running ColdFusion to a Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP box running homebrew software I've used to publish the Drudge Retort. It gets around two million hits a month on a dedicated server. I'm not planning to change the interface or usability of SportsFilter. There will be some wrinkles to iron out after the data is moved over, but once it's done I can implement some long-awaited new features. I'm a LAMP guy who never really mastered ColdFusion and Windows hosting. The motivation for the move is the persistent and unresolved outages lately.

Hooray! Do you ever have downtime at the Drudge Retort?

never really mastered ColdFusion and Windows hosting If you had badges made that said this, I would buy them. I did both for a time and it was not worth it. You know when you think of someone's batting average from 1972 and think, "That's brain capacity I could be using for something productive"? That's how I feel about my CF and IIS knowledge.

Will the move allow the old threads to be brought back?

Moving? What? /runs away before being asked to carry heavy things up and down stairs.

Good Luck, rcade! Yay!

I don't follow. Do I need to rent a van? Call in some old favors from some friends? When I move I usually just pretend my back injury is acting up and sip Dr. Pepper while others do the heavy lifting.

Friends help you move. Good friends help you move SportsFilter.

Do you ever have downtime at the Drudge Retort? We've had them occasionally, but much more infrequently than SportsFilter. The Planet's a bigger hosting company than the one we're using here, and they typically respond to an outage within 1-2 hours. Will the move allow the old threads to be brought back? Yup. We should have all content online after the move.

I have a pickup truck that ought to hold enough 5 1/4-inch floppies to carry all your data. Let me know if you need me. What? You have moved to something other than 5 1/4s? Maybe it's time for me to upgrade from my Radio Shack 8088 machine.

I'll give you a great deal on a Commodore 64 if you want some real power.

Yup. We should have all content online after the move. Including the lost Lockerroom Interviews? This is great news, BTW.
