Fantasy Football (NFL) Helpline: For those of us who have serious questions regarding this week's starting rosters or waiver wire pick ups. How about we help each other out!

For example...who should I pick up and start this week, Gerrard, Pennington or Harrington? Ugly...I know, that's why I need help. I'll be here Sunday before kick off to offer my help to those who need it.

I would say go with Gerrard. Liverpool are going to be hungry coming off the Champions League defeat (at home, no less) midweek, and playing Spurs means plenty of opportunity for goals and assists.

Kidding aside, I'd definitely take a pass on Harrington. I think the Titans defense is very solid and I don't trust Joey. I'd say it's probably a toss-up between Gerrard and Pennington I believe the Chiefs have a top-5 or so passing defense with a healthy number of interceptions, while the Giants are more middle of the pack in both categories. I'd say Pennington for that reason. But I don't play fantasy football and don't even know how scoring works, so factor that in accordingly.

The Giants are statistically a middle of the road defense, but those numbers are off tilt a bit. They had a lousy first ten quarters of the season and have since been pretty solid. Last week they were down-right dominant. And, you can bet that they will be keyed up to play their New Jersey rivals. Of course, I have no answers to this question. You see, Tennessee is a top-ten defense playing at home. Plus, it's Joey Harrington and that's a bit scary all by itself. And Kansas City's defense is quietly having a good year. Plus, KC is a different animal when playing at home. It's usually a good idea to steer clear of the Chiefs on their own turf. I'd check the under/over for each game and note the one that is highest. Start that QB. If Vegas thinks it'll be a shoot-out, that's your guy.

Oh, and this is a nice idea, tselson. I hope you find the answers you need and I hope this becomes a regular thing. This was a particularly good way to start. Tough question!

You should probably give a little info about your scoring if you want more specific help. So, just speaking to the matchups. The NY Giants mauled the Eagles offense. If the NY Giants get that kind of pressure on Pennington, it will be a nightmare. The Chiefs have a very good pass defense and home field advantage. Harrington has the best matchup. The Titans D got lots of ints against Brees, but they haven't got a ton of sacks. Depending on the scoring, I'd pick Pennington and hope for the best.

Thank you. Exactly the kind of opinions I was hoping for. I have grown tired of the lazy, contradicting information that can be found on ESPN. (For example, projecting David Carr for 21 pts. and then ranking him well below players whom they project to have fewer points) Thanks for confirming my fears regarding Harrington! Yes, bperk you are right about needing some info on the scoring. Here it is, 1 point for every 25 yards passing, 1 point for every 10 yards rushing/receiving, -2 per interception and 6 points per touchdown. Do you still give the nod to Pennington over Garrard? Garrard seems to run for about 30 yards a week. Oh, and this is a nice idea, tselson. I hope you find the answers you need and I hope this becomes a regular thing. Thanks, I thought it would be cool for anyone to be able to pop in here and get some weekly help with their fantasy teams.

I'd think Harrington has the best chance of the 3 for a break out game. His last two games 600 pyds, 4 tds, 0 ints, 75% compl vs. panthers & texans. I'm trying to convince myself not to use him instead of Hasselbeck this week. Garrard is a close second & I'd say a big hell no on Pennington.

Looks like the right answer this week in retrospect was Garrard. Who'd you go with? (Hopefully the Pennington suggestion from me will show you never to trust me in matters of football.)

posted by holden at 08:22 PM on October 07, 2007

I went with Pennington. He was worth (9), Harrington was worth (1) and Garrard was worth (14.) I lost by a lot more than the five more points Garrard would have scored. So this was all for not. At least catfish didn't get burned to badly if he started Harrington as Hasselbeck stunk it ip. This week, if my waiver wire pick up of Warner is successful, I'll be asking, Warner or McNabb? Or, how about these two: Is LJ broken? Will McGahee ever find paydirt? I'm 0-5. I have many questions and so few answers. (Wait a minute, if Romo tosses seven picks tonight, I may still win...)

Hahahaha. Romo is not gonna throw seven picks tonight (I got him on my other, non SpoFi team). He's playing the Bills.

Miracles can happen. I am actively praying for one, in fact, to happen tonight. My opponent has Witten and Owens, and I'm looking for Buffalo to rise up and pitch a shutout to preserve my 20-point lead. Or, I could hope they both strain hamstrings in warmups like Santonio Holmes did on Sunday. Damn you Santoio's hamstring! Damn you to hell!

Romo is not gonna throw seven picks tonight (I got him on my other, non SpoFi team). He's playing the Bills. Five picks and a lost fumble for Romo. Not quite seven picks, but close enough maybe for tselson to have a ray of hope. Not me, though. Witten friggin' killed me. And my opponent actually had Marion Barber and Witten, not Owens and Barber as reported.

Five picks and a lost fumble for Romo. Not quite seven picks, but close enough maybe for tselson to have a ray of hope. I am becoming firmly convinced that any QB I pick in my work league is destined to immediately start suckin'. I started the season with Drew Brees and just this week sat him down in favor of Romo, and what happens? Good thing I don't have Brady in that league.

I have these three RBs and can only start two ... Edge James Jones-Drew Sammy Morris Adrian Peterson Oh, decisions decisions! Please help me make one!

posted by jasonspaceman at 08:42 AM on October 13, 2007

For a comfort factor, I would go with James. He's been getting all of the carries and I can see Arizona running a lot in the second half. Now, it gets tough. I discount what any fantasy player does against the Bengals and Browns. So even if Morris gets 20 carries, I don't see him racking up a 100 yards and a score, this week. Peterson against the Bears on the road with Chester Taylor back in the mix? I don't like it. At home maybe. So, if Fragile Fred is out this week I like Jones-Drew. Houston's run defense isn't terrible but I like his chances to score at least once. You may want to try to trade Morris while his stock his high!

posted by tselson at 12:58 PM on October 13, 2007

I'd go with Edge and Lil' Mo, too. Maroney might bring Sammy Morris back to earth this week, and if not, next week to be sure. Even if Taylor's in the mix, I still like MJD. And tselson's right, get rid of Sammy while you have a chance at getting something good.

Ended up using Edge and Peterson. Maybe I should have used Peterson and Jones-Drew. Still think I am going to win the week (it's my pay league) even with Warner as my QB (he's already out of the game).

Whew, nice call on Peterson. I started Warner over McNabb this week. Ouch.

posted by tselson at 09:16 PM on October 14, 2007

So what's up with Matt Schuab? Has he been officially replaced by Rosenfels?

posted by Ying Yang Mafia at 02:12 PM on October 15, 2007

My QBS are Warner, Bulger and Trent Edwards. Uber ouch. I need 7 points from Roddy White to win my first week.

posted by jasonspaceman at 05:08 PM on October 15, 2007

I need 18 points from Alge Crumpler tonight in order to win.

My quarterback is Tom Brady. Heh heh heh heh heh. I've also got this wide receiver called Moss...new guy, but he seems to be working out okay.
