Fantasy Tour de France: has this been done, or does anyone have an idea for how it might be done? Half of the people I work with bike to work, so for this summer's tour I want to organize an office Tour de France pool or something like that (and kick off the Tour with that greatest of bicycling movies, the Triplets of Belleville).

Hm.. maybe drafting a sprinter, mountain climber, best under 25, and a rider for the yellow. Green, Polka Dot, White, and Yellow. Can't remember if there are any other jerseys. The sprinters, and mountain categories get points so you could do that easy enough. The Yellow and White are decided by time (not compeltely sure on the White) so whoever picked the rider closest in time to wearing the jersey would be the leader. For a team competition thing you could try to pick which team will win the most stages. I don't know if they are having a team time trial this year (but I fear the won't) but if they do you could have a prediction for that. I think there is also an overall team time. Could do a contest to see which team will lose the most/first rider to dropping out of the race.

Here's a link to a Tour pool, so you can get some ideas as to how they do it.

Cyclingnews.com always starts plugging their fantasy Tour contest around mid-June. They charge a few euros to enter, but you could always just steal their points system and organise it amongst yourselves.

Hey, thanks for the ideas! I'll read the tourpool and cyclingnews.com rules and think about how to do this (I like apoch's ideas lots -- maybe one of their sets of rules has some ideas for how to make all that work together). If I figure this out, would anyone be interested in joining a SpoFi Tour pool?

Yo, count me in. I'm for anything in any sport that I can understand. Cycling fits. Mind you, I did win the CFL play off contest...

If my ideas weren't a good indication, I love the Tour. I'm sooo in.

Despite my complete destruction in the NCAA tournament pool, you can count me in too.

By the way, I didn't know until my Tivo told me, but Versus has been showing some other races this spring. I caught the last stage of Paris Nice and I'm glad I did. That Tivo, it's always there for me, I tell ya.
