So far, so good. Windows XP (SP 2), Firefox 1.0.5.6.

Thanks. The server move is gradual as name servers point to the new IP address.

ooooOOOOOOOooooooo! You can close threads now! Shweet!

Yep. The first new features we're adding are ones to make the site easier to manage -- especially in regard to trolls. I'm digging the one-click banhammer.

Looks good except for the Preview and Post buttons being in the wrong place, but that's not new (same setup as NoMich).

Today's Spofi triple play: if the Royals make a triple play between 12:30 AM EDT and 12:31 EDT, you can reboot the server.

So far so good.

but that's not new (same setup as NoMich). Exactly. This is Firefox's problem. I hate to actually have to admit to myself that I should use IE when I visit this site, but the time is nigh.

Are you referring to the intermittent bug that causes Preview and Post to appear inside the comment box?

posted by rcade at 10:23 PM on August 26, 2006

Si. I am under the impression that this is a Firefox problem.

posted by NoMich at 11:39 PM on August 26, 2006

It is, but I'd rather use FF and deal with these little bugs than switch to IE for just this site. There are one or two things that make it worth the trouble for me to keep IE on my computer at all. I'd love to see the bug fixed, but I use tabs to get to the Preview & Post buttons as it is, and so I don't really mind so much.

I'll tough it out with Firefox. A reload usually cures the problem. IE is only allowed to exist on my puter because I need it to do QA.

Well, perhaps the most annoying Firefox bug is when you are previewing a new FPP. It's all on a single line that stretches into infinity.

posted by NoMich at 12:48 PM on August 27, 2006

In my IE, version (6.0.2900.2180 sp2), the search button gets set to a seperate line forcing the Orange Banner to cut off the date. It does this occassionally on the front page and always on the columns page. Hope this helps.

I have only noticed that happening on the columns page SDD, by the way nice coulmn.

All fine from down here. But I just upgraded my CPU at the same time, out of pure respect.

When I try to go to the archives, I receive the following message: Server Error We’re sorry, but there was a server error. We’ll try to fix it as soon as we can. Please try again later.

posted by MrFrisby at 02:59 PM on August 28, 2006

I get that same error, but *only* when I try to select a month. When I select a category, there are no problems. BTW, I'm referring to the front page archives, not the locker room archives. However, I see now that the same thing happens in the locker room archives.

Ditto what Frisby and NoMich said.

BUG: justgary's banhammer has a malfunction.

posted by qbert72 at 03:43 PM on August 29, 2006

Hey, um . . . (twirls foot in sand) . . . uhm, so, is there any chance there's more storage space and the old threads could come back? No? Ok bye!

posted by yerfatma at 05:10 PM on August 29, 2006

When the site's debugged, I'll revive the old posts and comments. I think I fixed the archive page error. Try it again and see if it works.

posted by rcade at 09:47 AM on August 30, 2006

It's working fine for me. Well, at least as well as it used to. The gray box that the pulldown menus are in still extends halfway across the page though. (running XP and IE)

posted by MrFrisby at 09:58 AM on August 30, 2006

The archives pages seem to be working properly now.

posted by NoMich at 10:28 AM on August 30, 2006

Here's an oddity: In Firefox, when I click on the comments link on the front page (not the locker room, but the real front page), the link for Search drops down a line and is now under the About link. Also, only the top half of Search is seen. In IE, Search still gets dropped down a line, but A) it's not hidden at all and 2) it's centered in that little linky goodness area.

posted by NoMich at 12:29 PM on August 30, 2006

So we seem to be back to threads 1000+. Will older ones come back some day, or are they gone forever? I'd like to do a little bit of benign data mining.

I actually logged out and had to log back in without manually deleting cookies! How long has that been possible?

posted by MrFrisby at 10:44 AM on September 01, 2006

I think just since the server move. Until then I couldn't log out without deleting cookies.

Not really a bug I don't think, but a question. Sometimes there are more comments listed in the sidebar than I can find on my page:

Locker Room Since your last visit: Links: 0 Comments: 3
I find one new comment, so, am I correct in my assumption that the other comments are on posts that have fallen off the bottom of my page?

posted by Folkways at 10:47 AM on September 02, 2006

I hate that too. But usually I decide it's not worth looking through the archives to find comments 2 and 3. Lazy always wins.

posted by jerseygirl at 11:47 AM on September 02, 2006

Lazy always wins. That's hot...

posted by wingnut4life at 11:53 AM on September 02, 2006

Sometimes, the missing comments haven't fallen off the page, they're on FPPs that have been "deleted." Although you can't see the post on the front page anymore, if you go into the archive, they're still there. Yesterday, three comments were stuck on an NFL FPP after it was removed from the front page. Sadly, the archives don't show the "(x new)" marker, so you have to try to spot which ones has more comments than when you last looked.

posted by Mr Bismarck at 12:56 PM on September 02, 2006

And that would explain Folkway's 3 phantom posts from the locker room. I had posted something to the locker room (with no links) and had a few comments, then I asked the pantheon to delete it because of my moronity.

posted by NoMich at 01:24 PM on September 02, 2006

Sometimes, the missing comments haven't fallen off the page, they're on FPPs that have been "deleted." Except in the lockerroom where we rarely delete FPPs or comments for that matter, as far as I've experienced.

Unless NoMich someone asks to be put out of their misery.
