Sportsfilter ma.gnolia group: Since we were all bored to tears while the site was down, I set up a group page on ma.gnolia for members to share sport-related sites that they like. [more inside]

The group is moderated, and requires one to be a mod to post, but I will check periodically to add each recognizable sportsfilter member as a moderator. I believe other member/moderators (goddam, yerfatma, skydivedad, et alia) can also approve people. If the process seems slow, just email me (see profile for my IM and website). BTW, if people are using multiple social bookmarking sites, I highly recommend using onlywire to post bookmarks to all of them (del.icious, blinklist, furl, etc) with one bookmarklet.

Social bookmarking overload! (Name of my new hair metal band, I think. SBO for real connaisseurs.)

I'm sorely tempted by Mags simply because del.icio.us slowed to a crawl for me somewhere around 3000 bookmarks. The one thing I need is a bookmarklet like I have for delicious where I just type "dl tag tag tag" in the URL bar and it submits the thing to del.icio.us with the tags. Does such a beast exist (I couldn't find it among Mags bookmarklets)? And why do these f'in sites have to have clever URLs that suck to type?

Cool, I'm in. Thanks for setting this up.

yerfatma: ma.gnolia has a bookmarklet (see Support & Tools), but also check out onlywire.com. You can add your usernames and passwords to your other bookmark sites and add a page to ALL of your bookmark sites with one bookmarlet. And why do these f'in sites have to have clever URLs that suck to type? Probably because of domain squatters. I agree they suck, but I find ma.gnolia less difficult than del.icio.us :) Apparently moderators can't promote members ot moderators, so I will have to do it myself. If it becomes a hassle I may turn off moderating and just keep an eye on things. Trox, you are good to go now.

Just join ma.gnolia, then join the Sportsfilter group. When I see a new user listed in the group I will upgrade them to moderator. If it becomes a hassle I will make the group public and just keep an eye on things.

Someone please explain the "why" of this. I'm just curious. Thanks.

well, that's a toughy, NoMich. ma.gnolia is yet another "social bookmarking" site. This one allows groups to form to share bookmarks of a similar interest (ie, sports). People can subscribe to the RSS feeds to see new links as they are added. That's it in a nutshell.

OK, I see. Thanks terrapin.

NoMich - I see it as a place to throw things that don't need front page posts or dedicated threads. just an ongoing linkdump sort of place.

Good way to look at it, gspm. Or perhaps places you visit daily for particular sport-related news. Not necessarily big media places.

I have decided to make the group "public" and allow anyone who wants to join to do so. The first folks to join are still moderators though, so I expect that between us we can make sure things run smoothly. I hope that SpoFites will consider joining and contributing. I'd love to see where others get their sports news, or simply follow their favorite teams.

Well I joined tonight. Interesting site.

I'd love to see where others get their sports news, or simply follow their favorite teams. Just look at my profile. Then there's Yahoo, nhl.com, and the teams official sites. Other than that, I come here.
