Ooooo. I'm looking at #3. Congrats to squealy, Calmy (especially) and skronk on the whopping point-scores. 80-90+ points. Whew.

I've yet to hear a fat lady sing, but this sure was a great week to pick Pires. Thanks Robert, you diving, cheating scumbag.

holy crap! I'm a-holding on to second by a thread! and what the hell? 7-0! I think everton was still hung over from the celebrations!

Hey, why is it that squealy and Calmy, the boys from Birmingham, profited so greatly this week, when they needed it most? I am calling an immediate investigation into Brummy bog bandit bribery and bringing the game into disrepute! This will go all the way to the top!

Brummy Bog Bandit Buggery...

posted by StarFucker at 03:38 PM on May 12, 2005

Where's the FA when you need them?

posted by billsaysthis at 04:44 PM on May 12, 2005

Who do you think the Brummy bandits bribed first? An outrage!

posted by worldcup2002 at 05:52 PM on May 12, 2005

Well, i'm still in first in the REAL Fantasy League. I'm up by 16 points. I have 4 injuries and a couple of players that pissed off their manager. Should be interesting. Any comments?

Also, its with much shame and embarrassment that i must admit...i have joined a Baseball Fantasy League. And i am in first place there too! I have no idea what i'm doing either!! I haven't watched a baseball game since i was 10 or something. I don't know who my players are or how many teams there are...in fact, i think i've forgotten the rules. I only joined because i'm at a new job and my boss is a baseball fan who created the league. I know, i know...i'm a complete sellout.

posted by StarFucker at 11:10 AM on May 13, 2005

Congrats on the new job, SF! That's the big win!

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:18 PM on May 13, 2005

well, if fantasy baseball + the office is anything like golfing + the office then perhaps the best longterm strategy would be to slide out of first place and settle into some position lower than your boss. perhaps get "taken" on a trade with him? nobody likes the new guy that comes in says he doesn't know what he's doing and wins the baseball league. though, somehow, fitting to see your baseball performance and inverse of your performance in our EPL pool.

What's with that REAL fantasy league, SF? I don't remember you mentioning it here. Anyway, I claim that I'm ruling the REAL fantasy league and by a huge margin as well. Congrats on the new job, assuming you're happy there and not muttering under your breath about how long until you go postal over it.

posted by billsaysthis at 03:09 PM on May 13, 2005

I mentioned it here a few times bill... Pay attention! And thanks for the congrats guys... I actually DO like this job. First time i've ever said that.

I'm too sleepy, sorry.

Hurrah for the Baggies! First team to survive being last at Christmas. Wonder if Portsmouth rolled over to make sure Southampton were relegated. Hmmm... As for the fantasy league, what a lousy end for my team. We're the Bolton of the fantasy league! Congrats to squealy!

posted by worldcup2002 at 11:41 AM on May 15, 2005

you wanna talk about lousy ends then wait until my final week score is tabulated. compared to the others near the top of the table it ensures that i have two consecutive late season swoons under my belt. the aggravation this week - figured to swap the injured Terry for the plays-all-the-time Gallas with Chelsea playing Newcastle figuring they'd win that one and maybe set a record for clean sheets or whatever they've got within their reach - and Gallas doesn't play. There was an extra transfer in my dealings this week (swapping out the goal scoring Fletcher from Man U) meaning that I burned 4 points and added a guy that didn't play. PLUS Fowler misses a late penalty kick. I was tied for 3rd going into the week, and before the final points are in I think I'm down in 5th. maybe 6th.

Thanks. Somehow I managed to screw up my order of subs. I could swear I left it as Kelly, Robinson, Upson. But I get home and it's Robinson, Upson, Kelly. This has cost me my office league. So I'm both chuffed and dischuffed at the same time. Well done to everyone. It was a great competition as usual. See you all in next season's EPL FFL.

So will Routledge and Johnson be finding new homes next month? Can't really see either happy in the Championship. And w00t for Mssr. Cisse, good sign for the 25th and next season I hope.

posted by billsaysthis at 04:04 PM on May 15, 2005

congrats to squealy and all. i slipped to 6th. just like last year. i guess either i learned nothing or my luck only extends so far. looking forward to next year.

posted by gspm at 04:29 PM on May 15, 2005

nope, checking back last year I swooned to 7th. and Squealy was 2nd last year and I don't think that anybody other than him topped me both last year and this year. so there was some turnover at the top of the table.

posted by gspm at 06:27 PM on May 15, 2005

Hey, I finished fifth! I am the Liverpool of the Fantasy League. How appropriate. So much promise, so much frustration. Thanks for a fun season, guys. Here's to next year! Where's the trophy?

posted by worldcup2002 at 06:35 PM on May 15, 2005

Thanks for that link, gspm. I notice that I finished 10th last year. So I have a hundred percent improvement this year. At this rate, I'll be champ next year.

posted by worldcup2002 at 06:45 PM on May 15, 2005

Everybody in the top 10 improved from last year! Well, except for kwacky. 2004-2005 (2003-2004) 1. (2) Squealy 2. (21) sauril* 3. (19) billsaysthis 4. (12) BigCalm 5. (10) worldcup2002 6. (7) gspm 7. (17) Ufez Jones 8. (1) kwacky 9. (16) mbd1 10. (?) Ian Townsend** * He would've been relegated if we'd played that system! ;-) ** Who is this player with the human name? What is your SpoFi name?

posted by worldcup2002 at 06:54 PM on May 15, 2005

Here I am thinking that 19 to 3 is the biggest jump from last year and the I look up at sauril to see he did better than me on that score too! To the moon, sauril, to the moon! At least I beat out WC! (Dude, I sent an email to your work addy, can you send me one from your home email?)

posted by billsaysthis at 10:49 PM on May 15, 2005

Ian Townsend is a Blues fan - friend of kwacky's and acquaintance of mine. I'm not sure whether he's a SpoFi member or not.

posted by squealy at 05:10 AM on May 16, 2005

obviously next year I am so gunning for 5th.

posted by gspm at 06:52 AM on May 16, 2005

congrats squealy! last year I sort of forgot about the whole league a couple of weeks in. this year I paid attention for most of it...
