More to the point, why did I sell him? Doh!

posted by squealy at 08:40 AM on August 31

ouch squealy lots of points this week. some had over 100.

posted by sauril at 11:55 AM on August 31

bronze for the week, but that transfer binge really hurt.

posted by garfield at 12:11 PM on August 31

Garfield, possibly those four goals Van Der Saar let in against Portsmouth(!) had a little to do with it as well. Still, you did score higher than me this week--thanks Mr. Cisse and a crap back line!

posted by billsaysthis at 01:01 PM on August 31

Yeah, he isn't putting up the numbers like last year. at least not yet. Should I be more wary of Fulham? I'm thinking Tottenham might be the way to go: above avg. record, low scoring games with alot of saves. Robinson, here i come.

posted by garfield at 01:27 PM on August 31

I could hold on no longer. I had no option but to sell Lampard in order to afford Henry. So this is the week Arsenal stop scoring..

posted by salmacis at 06:53 PM on August 31

A piddling performance from my boys these past two gameweeks. We're back down to #8. I'm looking for improvement when matches resume Sep 11. September 11. Hmmm.

posted by worldcup2002 at 02:34 AM on September 01

Wonder if Shearer will put himself on the starting XI when they take the field against Rovers that day.

posted by billsaysthis at 10:14 AM on September 01

With nothing to lose, I did blow up my squad. Still no Henry, though.

posted by taupe at 01:16 PM on September 01

this is what I call blowing up a squad.

posted by garfield at 01:25 PM on September 01

Yowch, garfield. I've committed myself to not being Tinkerman this season. So far, I've been a good boy, and the damage has been limited. I expect to be back in the top five next gameweek!

posted by worldcup2002 at 10:40 PM on September 01

I just find the double gameweeks so difficult resist. Mmmmmmm, double gameweeks. *drools* Trouble is I now have to fix all the mayhem I've wrought. I damn you Kronenbourg and your ability to cloud my FFL judgement. Mmmmmmm, Kronenbourg.

posted by squealy at 03:43 AM on September 02

I did the same as you squealy - I couldn't resist swapping Reyes out for Smith, and making Alan Smith captain was a biiiiig mistake, you're only 17 points away now!

posted by BigCalm at 04:50 AM on September 02

I toyed with the idea of making Smith captain too, but it was too risky with the form Henry's been in. Comically enough, if I hadn't fucked with my team lineup I'd have scored 19 more points. But c'est la vie, sometimes these things pay off, sometimes they don't.

posted by squealy at 05:32 AM on September 02

making Alan Smith captain was a biiiiig mistake Okay, I feel a *little* less stupid right now. At least I wasn't the only one.

posted by Ufez Jones at 09:28 AM on September 02

Hey, making Alan Smith captain is better than having Cisse on your team. I had Henry as captain, but I also had Cisse. ;-)

posted by worldcup2002 at 11:42 AM on September 02

ditto. I was going to sell him, but of course as soon as I do he'll break out *that very day* of course he will.

posted by sauril at 11:58 AM on September 02

i have the same sentiment about Gerrard....9.5 ain't worth 14 pts.

posted by garfield at 12:50 PM on September 02

I also have Gerrard. Sigh. My Liverpool fanaticism has cost me some points again.

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:57 PM on September 02

btw, thanks for the updates, Calmy! It ain't pretty, but it works. And all we need is the update so we can gloat and trash talk. Good show, Clammy, on the updates and topping the table.

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:59 PM on September 02

Let's get on with week 5 already! *impatient*

posted by worldcup2002 at 02:42 AM on September 10

Moved up to #6, even with two gimpy players. With my substitutes bringing in six more points, I should be set for the week. Can't wait for Calmy's update.

posted by worldcup2002 at 11:51 PM on September 12

er, we've still got a game to go this gameweek?

posted by BigCalm at 03:35 AM on September 13

New game week...tonight.

posted by StarFucker at 08:58 AM on September 13

One more game today (Charlton v Soton) for Gameweek 5. New Gameweek (6) is next Saturday. Fooker is trying to throw us off, cheeky bugger.

posted by worldcup2002 at 01:56 PM on September 13

Charlton v Soton, now there was a match for the ages. I cannot tell you how much joy there is in my life for having watched it.

posted by billsaysthis at 06:45 PM on September 13

I'll post it here, because it's going to clutter the locker room otherwise. A summary: A slightly lower scoring week, but somehow I've extended my lead (/lifts shirt over head in celebration), but this week's star players are Kwacky and Garfield, getting 61 and 57 respectively, and who now lead the september table; there's plenty of movement in mid table - gspm moves up to second after a poor performance from squealy's boys, worldcup has jumped a couple of places too. Update below

C'mon, I'm embarassed enough as it is topping the table and doing the updates! Charlton v Soton, now there was a match for the ages. I cannot tell you how much joy there is in my life for having watched it. bill, I've got a recently painted wall that you might find even more riveting!

posted by BigCalm at 10:44 AM on September 14

Ouch. what a terrible week. And my grass has stopped growing. you might want to watch that too, bill!

posted by sauril at 11:12 AM on September 14

Calmy: C'mon, I'm embarassed enough as it is topping the table and doing the updates! Nothing to be embarrassed about. Congrats to you. And you make a "Big" target. Ha. I'm just glad someone's doing the update. Keep it up. And take it to the front of the Locker Room!

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:33 PM on September 14

yeah, I want to see Kwacky's and mine name in bright lights, or over a grey background! Either way, I've got Jimmy Floyd on the squad now, so look out. And Jimmy Floyd is one helluva name.

posted by garfield at 01:38 PM on September 14

BC, sauril, I only enjoy modern art, doubt that your wall or grass is nearly abstract enough. But thanks for the offers.

What are people's team values? It's a stat I haven't been able to find on other league members. Not that it matters all that much, but I'd still like to know. I'm up to 104.0.

nevermind. i haven't had my coffee yet.

posted by garfield at 08:41 AM on September 16

Geez, second by half a point! Not sure I understand how fractional values get in since every player is full point awarded scores every week (or zero).

posted by billsaysthis at 11:49 AM on September 16

what the... is that the yahoo league? Just wonderin'.

Is it any better this year? How's the updating and accuracy? I think the guys who do the engineering are just across the room from me, but the people who run it are in the UK. I can check, but as you can see, I couldn't be bothered to play this year after the past year's deteriorating quality.

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:55 PM on September 16

wc2k2, the format has changed quite a bit when transferring players in and out. Gone is the re-sign at lower price (my kluivert pick is just killing me because of this). Seems to update a little faster thus far anyway.

posted by trox at 01:30 PM on September 16

The usability went way down IMO. When making a transfer there is no search by name or list by team (instead of by position). That's engineering, right?

posted by billsaysthis at 06:22 PM on September 16

My days of mediocrity are over... I welcome the top score days!

posted by StarFucker at 05:11 PM on September 17

The Clamster may be a scummer, but I still think he should get credit for being 27th out of 300,000. ;-)

posted by squealy at 01:33 PM on September 19

Squeaky, all props to our current leader but don't forget that there are probably quite a few people with players from Liverpool, ManU or both and the game week is not over yet. Hat trick for Cisse tomorrow???

posted by billsaysthis at 03:00 PM on September 19

For Gerrard, preferably. Hahaha.

posted by worldcup2002 at 06:27 PM on September 19

No, I have Cisse in both leagues, he is a far better choice for massive scoring.

posted by billsaysthis at 11:04 PM on September 19

Oh, Gerrard. Please let it be Gerrard.

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:43 PM on September 20

My strikers are okay, and my midfield is decent... I'm just not getting anything.

posted by StarFucker at 12:46 PM on September 20

yeah, dude. the points vs. cost ratio is damn ugly.
